Yeah, Kanell made it 2 years 11 months, so he outlasted both Ryan and Villani by almost a year. But I don't think anybody's shocked to see him gone. This is the new normal.

Agreed about Ryan. He's been my favorite in the modern era.

This was his first job straight out of Syracuse University. Making $30K max. So hopefully he's moving onto a better paying opportunity. Even the veteran TV and radio talents in a market like BTV make shockingly little money. They are a dime a dozen.

Re: 2016 - 2017 Vermont Catamounts

Told AJ was fired. Ratings were poor, and of course these guys are on term limits, basically. The school, not the station is hiring the play-by-play this time around, because they use that Leafield Sports group now. In theory, AJ could still do the games, but be employed by the school. However, I don't see that happening.

My bet is the school goes the route they have with hockey, where the play-by-play voice also works for the team/school in another role day-to-day. Control the message.

PS - I liked Rob too. He understood the details to calling a game and how to use his voice. The other two were just cookie cutter Cuse crap. All boom and no bite.

I think RadioRobUVM has a real money paying job now, but it sure would be nice to have him back at Men's BB games.

Re: 2016 - 2017 Vermont Catamounts

Finally, the OOC schedule is up on the website. The men's basketball roster is up for 2016-17 as well, but the freshmen just have the basic name and number, no picture or bio. I think I counted 17 on the roster -- isn't that over the maximum allowed? Do red shirts not count? I know Josh Speidel doesn't count against our roster numbers this year, but that's still 16, assuming I can still do basic arithmetic.

(I checked the women's roster for comparison, and I saw each player had her pic and bio. And then I noticed.. no freshmen on the list. Just nine on the roster today. Surely there are some new recruits coming in! I looked at the 'news' tab and didn't see any 'coach announces incoming players' announcement. Odd. Can't tell if it's the Athletic Dept. behind the ball on updating the website, or something else. Anyone know?)

Re: 2016 - 2017 Vermont Catamounts

I've been disappointed with the lack of overall content on the UVM athletics homepage this summer. Typically there are some video previews of the fall sports (especially soccer), some video of men's basketball summer happenings, etc. This year they had no new video on the site and the rosters are incomplete. I know there has been a lot of shifting staff but I miss the promotional content and would assume that comes from the lower levels of the athletic department.

Before this summer, the home page at uvmathletics.com used to have a tab for "teams" so you could select which men or women's teams for information. That has disappeared.

To the right of the big "V" with the catamount on the home page, there is at least a top nav menu item "TEAMS", which lets you select a team and then schedule|roster|news, if you wish. It's the lack of even somewhat complete and updated info I'm objecting to, per dnapolit. It doesn't take a major investment in staff time -- pretty basic stuff. Disappointing.

Thanks: it was hidden because I was using a larger-than-normal font for that page.

You guys and the photos again. Weirdest obession ever. I've said it before, they wait until likely next month (you know, when school is fully in session), and when they have all their 2016-17 gear ready for use. Furthermore, newcomers fill out biographical information that will be used on their bios when they arrive and start the school year, and have gone through the athletics department orientation. That does not happen for winter sports athletes right away.

There are 13 scholarship players, and 4 who are not (Shungu, Urso, Speidel, Rohrer). That equals 17. You can have as many people on the roster as you want, provided you do not exceed 13 scholarships.

And here is your release: http://uvmathletics.com/news/2016/6/...r-2016-17.aspx

Re: 2016 - 2017 Vermont Catamounts

Catpower, I'm all set with photos. What I want is some video of the team practicing this summer and a few interviews. I know this is a basketball site but I also enjoyed seeing the previews of the soccer teams getting ready for the season. I have no idea why they wouldn't continue the practice of putting up summer video as they've done it in the past and it's marketing 101. If you want people to show up to games you need to promote your programs.

Just to clarify, I'm not obsessed with the pictures per se, just as a symptom of the lack of apparent effort in keeping the website up to date. Sure, I can wait for the team photos. But the bio bit for each new player could easily be fleshed out as a part of their welcome to Catamount (or "Countamount") Country.

For example, David Urso's bio has the usual:
Quote:
BEFORE VERMONT: He played high school basketball at Central Catholic in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania ... Prepped last year (2013-14) at Spire Institute (Genevia, Ohio) ...

PERSONAL: Is the son of Gary and Jenny Urso ... Has two older brothers...
But anyway. Moving on!

Thanks for clarifying how many players can be on the roster.

The non-release I referred to was for the women's BB newcomers. (I'm aware that the men's announcement was posted; I 'liked' it back in June.)

Looking forward to actual basketball being played!

Re: 2016 - 2017 Vermont Catamounts

Really solid schedule this year. The Lyndon State game isn't even a concern to me. We have some good winnable match ups with major teams. That is always a plus.
