Also, there has been some new information released about next year's non-conference schedule which has tremendous improvement in terms of strength and level of competition.

According to this link, UMBC will be part of the Battle 4 Atlantis competition with the games on the mainland. Similar to the Maui on the Mainland.

One game that has already been confirmed according to the website is......

http://www.bloggingthebracket.com/20...s-thanksgiving

UMBC vs. Arizona

I believe that there will be one more team that UMBC will be playing from a pool of Villanova, Purdue, NC State, Tennessee, SMU, Western Kentucky, and Northern Iowa.

Gotta Love That!!!
Nice! I'll be able to see them play in Tucson! I hope the subregional is also on the west coast like the Maui was.

Wow, that is an excellent line-up. Beat any of those teams and people will know who UMBC is.

Not saying he'll make up the 16.2 ppg, but I think Arkel Lamar has great promise to develop into a really good player and he's shown a nice outside shot as a freshman. I could easily see him moving up into double-digits from 4.6 points per game in an expanded role. I'd also expect Gerrity to average more than 5.5 ppg.

(1) With the leap this team made from last year to this year, don't count them out. They went from 9th in the league to near the top pretty quickly. With a new coach.

(2) You'd be amazed what a little post-season experience can do for a player's confidence and poise.

Exactly...and this guy has legendary credibility with me considering his screen name is Bill Murray.

Yeah it was. I'm just bummed to have lost without our best player.

We need to get another playmaker in next year. The void left by Darley is going to be immense.

Re: 2016-2017 UMBC Retrievers Thread

I have to admit, I still can't believe the growth Darley made in his career. When he first started at UMBC he didn't look like he'd be anything special and he didn't ever look comfortable playing a natural power forward, but then as a junior, he just moved out to a stretch four, shot three's got comfortable and as a senior truly blossomed. With his height, 3-point shooting and quickness he is going to have a solid career playing overseas somewhere.

I wish he would have gotten the single-season 3-point record. He was deserving of something like that. But what a player. UMBC is definitely in a better place now than when he started.

Lastly, about the atmosphere, I think the spark is back at UMBC around basketball. It was at times dreadful to be at games with an empty gym but it was packed in there tonight. Now they didn't have the top section of seats pulled out, and I have no clue why, but there were a lot of people standing and it was a pretty great atmosphere to watch a college basketball game. Hopefully, they can keep on building on it and take the momentum into their new gym and pack that place too.

I predict a few transfers....

Daquan is a point guard who rarely and barely played. Still has kj in front of him

Jairus seems like he's done with college. Plus with will graduating he will leave too so will doesn't get all the credit for this seasons success

Walk on Ishmael puts in a lot of time for no payoff. May call it quits

Congrats on a great season, UMBC! Too bad it came up a little short while you were short-handed. But this has been a great exercise in learning how to win for a team that's needed it after the last several years!

While everyone's bickering across multiple threads as to whether Vermont or Albany will be better next year...tell me again why we're sleeping on UMBC? A lot of returning talent on an already dangerous team. This team is moving forward.

I know you're plugged in to the program somehow so your second statement is worrisome. Losing the other two wouldn't matter, but losing Lyles would be devastating for obvious reasons.

They were proven a paper tiger this year...need to see more. New gym will help but they have to keep building.

If Lyles leaves as someone speculated, back to the drawing board.

I don't think 21-13 isn't necessarily a record of a "paper tiger." I know you're saying that because Albany dominated UMBC at their own place but defeating Stony Brook for the first time in years and winning 3 postseason games is nothing to scoff at.
