I'm surprised that Pittsburg didn't yield more recruits after Eddie Benton's career.

Brennan was actively recruiting the Pittsburgh area during Benton's tenure- had success with both Jeremy McCool and Dave Ostrosky who were also from the Pittsburgh area.

I remember both of them. Both were starters and solid players.

Erik Nelson might have been our 2nd best player from the Pittsburgh area.

Him, or David Urso.

Patsos?

Oh not a Patsos on vacation joke? Sorry

Erik Nelson was awesome.

I'm hoping we stay connected with our Canadian friends. We have done well with the few guys we have gotten from up there.

Yea Florida is a lame excuse for Becker to get a free vacation down there. I don't doubt he's working but Florida is not a place we are going to kill it with recruits. Midwest makes a lot more sense though I think that's Kyle's area. Hamlet obviously the Albany area. Schneider?

You joke but one thing this Vermont staff has been unafraid to do throughout Becker's entire tenure is to tap into bases that people precieve to be out of reach, which is extremely smart. They're looking at it from a prospective of finding emerging markets.

Look at their recruiting cycles:

-New England prep kids was a steady source of players until the big boys at power conferences starting plucking talent/prep coaches could convince top 40 players to show up (VT Academy a top-10 2018 player. Vermont Academy...a team that 6 years ago was playing kids from Brandon, VT on its prep squad as starters). UVM keeps its presence, but with the number of eyes on NEPSAC, they had to move to a new market.

-Indiana/Midwest: built inroads into there, and got a nice stream of players, ones who you'd be asking why they'd come all the way to UVM, but took the chance and did and we're all glad. UVM now has a presence established in that area, and are a known "brand" to midwestern kids

-Florida: Right now, they see Florida as a place with a high volume of players, and outside of the major conference schools there, all peer or less established programs that UVM can easily tout better accomplishments over despite the distance. It's the same thing as the Indiana guys, you get one or two where distance isn't a factor, and they're solid contributors, you've found a new market, and have an established presence in Florida.

None of that means you put all your eggs in one basket, and they haven't. To me, you should commend the staff for casting a wide net and establishing itself in new areas to be a truly national program, as it will look all over to find players who will help maintain the winning tradition.

Florida to Vermont is too big of a weather difference. I don't see us being able to attract many kids from there. The northern Midwest Indiana to Wisconsin is a much easier sell. the coaching staff has mentioned before that similar weather is one of the reasons for concentrating on the area.

I understand trying to get a pole in a stocked fishing pond but we don't have the right bait.

I agree. Stick to places that at least have some winter. If I was a Fl native and came to VT I would be unhappy.

Ahh, the senitments of typical closed-minded Vermonters.

I guess Albany should have never recruited Australia. Upstate NY is too cold. I guess UNH should have never recruited Texas. New England is too cold.

Exactly. ITs not like UVM plays in an outdoor arena.
I went from S. FL to New England to play lacrosse in college and loved it.
It was outdoors and sucked in February, but there is much more to college than the weather.

Its also not like a TON of people in Florida didn't grow up somewhere else.

Best to complain about a coach taking a trip down to FL. Where its already in the 90s and too humid - must be a sweet, sweet vacation escaping VT when the weather gets good to go enjoy shitty FL heat and humidity.

Actually, there's about 17 pages in another thread that has clearly established that the only thing to consider in college is the weather.

As long as Becker & Co. keep landing recruits, he can chase them wherever he wants. As evidenced by the 750 offers we currently have out (hyperbole), it's not like they're not recruiting everywhere else as well.
