Look at what's left in the CIT, I have to think they send us on the road for the quarterfinals. Who do you think we get?

UVM has never been in the CIT, but if it's anything like the CBI UMBC can pay to host a home game if it wants to spend the $$. Not sure what your budget is but AD may have limited it to 1 game.

I'm guessing St. Peter's. They had a second round bye because they were "seeded higher" (however that works in this tournament) and UMBC is the closest opponent to them left.

Re: UMBC in the CIT Thread!

There's no reason why we can't get to the Finals of this thing. St. Peter's has an RPI of 124 so this isn't a big mismatch if we play them. I'm guessing we'd play them at their place?

Re: UMBC in the CIT Thread!

I guess we could host Liberty if we're not considered one of the three lowest seeds of the five who didn't get a bye.

UMBC - 157
Liberty - 161
Texas A&M-CC - 147
Campbell - 230
Idaho (200) or Texas State (169)

So in theory, UMBC would be second of the five in RPI. So we could/might be able to host another home game but if proximity comes before RPI, then who knows. I'm not sure why IPFW (Fort Wayne) got the bye instead of Texas A&M-CC to be honest.

My guess for the quarterfinal matchups:

Campbell @ Furman
Liberty @ IPFW
UMBC @ St. Peter's
Idaho/Texas State @ Texas A&M-CC

We've hosted 2 games already, and since this is a pay-for-play tournament, UVMHC may be right, we may have spent our budget on this. If I were a degenerate gambler living in Las Vegas (hey, look at that) I'd put my money on going to St. Peter's.

That would be a very interesting clash of styles.

Re: UMBC in the CIT Thread!

We're hosting Liberty. They score about 67ppg but at 21-13 and 14-4 in the Big South, the clearly play some defense too.

That's pretty nice commitment from UMBC to spend 105K thus far on CIT home games and nice gesture towards Odom/team for the job they did this year- any idea how attendance has been for these games to offset some of that?

Abysmal. Students are on spring break but we really haven't done a great job of community outreach to attend these games. I hope they do that this weekend.

Re: UMBC in the CIT Thread!

I like these non-NCAA/NIT tournaments, but I don't fully understand the CIT. I get the pay-to-play and host a game concept, but the top 3 seeds got a bye in the last round and then all of them get road games this weekend. Seems odd.

Nonetheless, will be watching Sunday. Go UMBC!

I don't either but I'm grateful to our AD for supporting the team like this. I don't see why we can't win this thing. It's not the NCAAs or NIT but winning a postseason tournament is something new and hopefully a culture-shifting event.

Re: UMBC in the CIT Thread!

I'm pretty sure I heard it mentioned on the broadcast that UMBC will be hosting on Wednesday night, which, btw, is on CBS Sports Network, which doesn't stream, but still better than Facebook's streaming service.

One worry is Jarius Lyles, who sat out the last five minutes with an ice pack on his knee. Hopefully, it's not that serious.
