Purdue was upset in the First Round last year by 12th seeded Arkansas-Little Rock, who was a very good, very athletic mid-major team last year. I will guarantee you the players have not forgotten that and will not be looking past Vermont.

Purdue is a disappointing NCAA Tournament team. Hopefully we can continue that disappointment tonight.

Re: Vermont vs Purdue

I filled out my bracket yesterday and picked Vermont over Purdue then Vermont over Nevada which I predicted would upset Iowa State! Then I picked Michigan State over Vermont in the Sweet 16. I predicted that Michigan State would upset #1 Kansas then meet #7 Michigan in the Great 8!

Re: Vermont vs Purdue

This is Vermont Basketball. There was a time when we'd be "just happy to be here" but that time has long since past. We're here to win. Beat Purdue.

There will be a time to step back and reflect on the amazing season at some point, but tonight it's about beating Purdue.

LOL! True, they have been upset in the First Round the last 2 years. Prior to that, they were money. Seriously...you do like to make up a lot of stuff.

PS - And that article is actually from a guy that is all about Indiana University and can't stand Purdue.

Re: Vermont vs Purdue

My thoughts on the game, some of this is pretty obvious but most of the time it's the simple and obvious things. Anyways:

*First 8min-10min of the game will be crucial. We need to come out locked in. Can't go down early and need to score some hoops early. Purdue will be a difficult team to have to rally on if we get down by 10pts+ early.

*Lamb/Henson need to stay out of foul trouble. Super obvious, but both of those kids will need to be out there for 30 min+ if possible. Both are two toughest kids inside and both can also play outside, giving us one of the few advantages over Purdue's bigs being able to draw them away from the hoop for TBH.

*Ernie and Kurt need to be ready to let it fly. Going to need them to hit because not sure how much spacing we're going to get inside.

*Need to do a supberb job on the glass and defending the 3pt line. I don't expect us to be able to out-rebound Purdue, but need to keep the margin respectable and unlike last season obviously, can't just concede open 3s- Purdue is one of the best 3pt shooting teams in the country. Team is much better defending the 3 this year, but still can't lose shooters.

Go Cats!

Make stuff up? What am I making up. Uh, winning their first rd game isn't really a lot to expect for a program like Purdue- that's like the bare minimum. Purdue hasn't ever made the Elite Eight under Matt Painter- despite having how many players that have gone on to the NBA?- I know the Celtics drafted two kids off his best-ever Purdue teams. Bottom line, when you think about teams that will go deep in the NCAA Tournament, Purdue doesn't register.

They were much better under Gene Keady, obviously, but they also had Glenn Robinson who was the best scorer in college basketball and #1 overall NBA draft pick.

Bob Kravitz is also a stone-cold moron, FWIW.

Re: Vermont vs Purdue

Is this the track record of someone that is "money" in the NCAA Tournament:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_P...oaching_career

Not for my money. Probably not for Purdue's money either

In 11 years, he's made it out of the opening weekend just twice- both of those teams advanced to Sweet 16.

Purdue doesn't have to make it to the Elite 8 to beat Vermont. And I believe he has one player currently in the NBA, E'twaun Moore with the Bulls. Hammons may still be hanging with somebody as well I guess.

Thanks for that little Purdue basketball history lesson.

But prior to the last 2 years, he had never lost in the First Round, which is basically all he has to do to get past Vermont. So, while they may falter in the next round, they would have already eliminated Vermont.

That's...not what we're talking about though. My comments have nothing to do with Purdue beating Vermont, or Purdue's strength relative to Vermont. Everyone know's who the underdog is, it's not a mystery.

Point is simply Purdue is not a good NCAA Tournament team under Matt Painter. The results speak for itself. Beating Vermont or not tonight doesn't change that in any way for him-only going deep in the NCAA Tournament does.

Again, not talking about Purdue beating Vermont in the first round of the NCAA Tournament- talking about Purdue's overall success in the NCAA Tournament under Painter- which isn't great.

Re: Vermont vs Purdue

Pretty sure I never said their success was great under Painter. If you could point that out to me, I will gladly apologize for misspeaking. The "money" comment was getting out of the first round, which is all I have been talking about because, again, that is when they are playing Vermont.

My point is the disappointment with Purdue most of the time occurs after the time period when they would have already played Vermont.

I said Purdue's track record in the NCAAs isn't great- you said I made that up. So, you can retract that- unless we have wildly different interpretations of what success in the NCAA Tournament is for a program like Purdue.

Are you sure about that? Here's Purdue's results the last 4 years:

*No NCAA Tournament, Loss in CBI Quarters

*No post-season play...

*First Round Exit

*First Round Exit
