Eh, the reality is that anyone can leave at anytime for any reason- we've literally seen it all and every single scenario. Coaches, players, etc.

That being said, not that I don't think it's possible to lose anyone else- it absolutely is, but this team is positioning itself for after next season when it will graduate A TON. So, if all these new kids are patient beyond next season, and no reason to think they won't be considering how many opted to red shirt- then they will all receive an opportunity to compete.

Plus, the fact it's just silly to say a freshman red shirt that's never even played and shown their stuff got recruited over by the same freshman that's also never played. There will be a BOATLOAD of minutes available and to compete for in 2018-19- and that all starts now.

Okay, but... transferring as a senior? Sit one year to play one year? Is that really considered a worthwhile enterprise? And would a kid coming off a red-shirt year transfer? Wouldn't they have to sit out another year? I guess these sorts of things do happen. I was going off my assumptions and limited knowledge base. Anyway, I hope not.

I don't think you read my post closely. I said that Dalyrimple and Shungu will likely see what happens this year and then possibly move on the following year if playing time didn't materialize. I agree that a kid would not transfer after a red shirt year.

Sorry, work keeps interfering with my reading comprehension here. Must eliminate these distractions!

Also, you don't have to sit out a year if you transfer to a non D1 program. And if Drew did leave, I'm guessing he could play right away back in Canada, which is not subject to NCAA rules. Just guessing. Keep in mind, this is all speculation based on what will be very scarce playing time next year. They may all be happy as clams and want to stay.

It's too bad we need to wait a year before we can have another summer trip to Canada for exhibition games.

Re: 2017-2018 Vermont Catamounts

Maybe Rohrer just wanted to return to Vermont, play some hoops and graduate from a very good academic institution. Playing at the D 1 level is maybe all he wanted and get a degree, so he stays. This is the case with many guys going D 1, instead of playing time at a lower level, I would think.

Yeah, I remember when UVM added him someone posted a video of him playing at his community college in California. There was almost no one in the stands, but he was the man on his team. Now, he rarely sees the floor, but he's on a D1 team and has been to the NCAA tournament. Depends what you want.

Thanks for posting. I knew the story, but this really expands on it, especially his Mom's role. She probably saved his life. Next year's catamounts certainly won't lack for human interest stories.

Re: 2017-2018 Vermont Catamounts

I think it's premature to be speculating on how playing time is going to be divided before we even see many of these guys play. However, it is clear that in 7 months, nearly an eternity, we'll start to know more. Right now it's more fun fun to consider that UVM may very well be better, I said BETTER, next season that this one.

But what we do know is that Lamb, Henson, TBH and probably Ernie are going to play 25+ minutes per game. That leaves precious few minutes to be divided up among a horde of players. That's all I was trying say in my initial post. Playing time is going o be very scarce for subs. If Nash or someone else emerges as a player that is too good too good to sit a lot, then it just gets worse for the remainder. We have sixteen players, that is just too many, especially when some starters are standouts. It's a good problem to have, but some will only see the court at the end of blowouts.

You're right, in the end math always wins. We play 200 player minutes a game. That doesn't change. I think what you'll see is some guys having to be patient, and some guys being disappointed. Like I said in a previous post, for guys that are freshmen and sophomores, there is the hope of knowing we lose (at least) another 4 guys next year, and that you'll see a real change in the dynamic of the team. Compete hard now, and you'll get your chance.

Sometimes it pays to be the 9th man...because sometimes Luke Maye gets you to the Final Four.
