Well he's never going to be a Payen type player because his Q'pac offensive stats are horrible. Maybe he can be a difference maker on defense, so a different role, but we will see. It's amusing to me how bloggers expect big things out of these redshirts, transfers, and non-scholly guys. I'm taking a wait and see approach.

The facts - at Q'pac his minutes decreased dramatically once league play started. He scored 11 points in 19 league games. Zero assists. His strong point defense - 27 rebounds, 4 blocks, 17 fouls, 98 minutes played in 19 games. So my point is, we are touting another strong, deep bench, and one of the key guys (some even saying he should start) is someone who was a non-factor in league play for a much worse team than UVM. Hmmm...like I said, I'll wait and see.

I think I'd take the Albany three. Stire is a starter and a bruiser. Limited offensively but a good defender and rebounder. Charles is excellent on offense, he doesn't miss that short jumper and came up big in the biggest game of the year. I hear he's defensively challenged, but only know that from what I read from Albany posters. Don't know anything about Lands except that he has monster size, and Will Brown usually makes good use of that even if they have limitations like Stire. As far as the UVM three, Uruquart has excellent size. He's a legit 6'10", and has decent bulk. He is useful against certain teams, especially in our league. But he plays soft for his size. He shies away from contact offensively and in rebounding. He's not a banger. Not a great defender. He is almost useless against teams like Albany and Purdue. His minutes diminished drastically with the emergence of Payen in league play. Dingba we know nothing about. A lot a people are speculating, but until we see him in action, we know virtually nothing except that he didn't do much at Qpac and he's small for a forward but has long arms. Rohrer was an emergency fill in two years ago, and his minutes dried up this year with the addition of Henson and Lamb. Not sure why you would take him over any of Albany's three.

Here is a mixtape for Dingba at the Salisbury School. He really looks impressive. I don't know what happened at Q'pac but they did change coaches..... He's #22 .

I hope he's really good for UVM, but EVERYONE looks good in their mixtape. They're highlight reels.

He looks pretty good to me. I believe someone on this forum said we recruited him out of high school. The coaches must think he can help the team. I trust their decision-making.

I don't know what number he wore at Q-pac, but I doubt he gets #22 next year...pretty sure that number will not be available at UVM, ever.

Re: 2017-2018 Vermont Catamounts

There are usually 2 "versions" of a transfer. There's the one you're hoping for, and the one you know you might end up with.

With Dingba, we brought him in hoping he'll be the guy we recruited in high school. It's possible he may just end up being the guy we saw (or barely saw) at Q-Pac.

Payen was the same way. Josh Hearlihy. Hector Harold. Ryan Pierson. The list goes on. You hope for one, prepare for the other, and consider it a victory if you get something somewhere in between.

Dingba took an official to UVM out of HS- chose Quinnipiac because his HS teammate Zaid Hearst went there as well as another AAU teammate.

Re: 2017-2018 Vermont Catamounts

Amazing Transfers:
Matt Glass (an ML guy but flourished senior yr under Becker)
Payton Henson

Solid Transfers...good, but not great:
Candon Rusin
Trey Blue
Hector Harold
Darren Payen (senior year redeemed himself from the "eh" bucket because junior year was no bueno)

Eh Transfers:
Josh Hearlihy
Ryan Pierson

For some reason transfers almost always play better in their 2nd year here. Here's hoping Henson and Hearlihy both are that way.

I'd take them because I'm a true UVM fan and wouldn't pick a rival team's players over my own...pretty plain and simple.

Re: 2017-2018 Vermont Catamounts

Dingba has many of the same skills as Dre Wills. Incredible leaping ability and athleticism. Looks to me like he likes to get up and down the floor. He may not be able to guard a perimeter player like Wills but he's also 4 inches taller than Wills so I would say he may slide nicely into a defensive role like what we saw with Wills. Any offense we get from him will be gravy.

Also, many remember that during a stretch of the OOC play Payen didn't even get into the game against Dartmouth, Kurt was ice cold shooting, and Dre looked like he was disinterested. We still had a terrifice OOC result even though the seniors were in a funk. No way we go undefeated without tremendous play from all the seniors but this group coming back has experience winning games without those 3 players in their best form.

Agreed, and really folks- does this team really need another player that needs to be putting up shots? If more shots go to Lamb, Henson, TBH, and Duncan + new offensively inclined players...that's a good thing, IMO- because it all worked, but some games last year, some of those guys had very few FG attempts.

If Dingba can provide interior defense, rebounding, shot blocking, and grab all the garbage for put-backs, what more will we really need?

Re: 2017-2018 Vermont Catamounts

So for people who pay closer attention to recruiting than I do, what would adding Nash mean as a practical matter for Vermont next season? Is he a sixth man at the 2? Does he start? And how much better does Vermont get immediately? Is he perhaps the difference between repeating as champs or not?

To my mind, the biggest need is replacing the perimeter defense that Wills and Steidl gave us. To what extent would he help fill that gap?

Nash was NEPSAC AA Third-Team this year....reference point, Bailey Patella our other recruit from VA was honorable mention, and the first team kids all going to the highest level of college basketball.....a Big Ten-level recruit before sadly he got sick.....prepped at Gould Academy this past year...very athletic, really a Combo G/F and will likely be able to step in and play immediately at the 3...can really shoot it:

http://www.newenglandrecruitingrepor...-england-teams

http://www.recruithoops.com/illinois...three-pointers

Video above is a 40pt game with 9 threes with UVM staff watching.

He can get to the hoop and really shoot it.
