Show's how committed Vasic is to Simovic as he could have done even better than Charlotte.

As a Hartford Almni, the walls of that program pretty fast this off season. Most of Gallagher's staff have left. Only question now for the new AD. Get rid of him now or let him play his final year of his contract as a lame duck coach. I think this new Ad will find a very good coach as she did at UW-Green Bay.

Incredibly dissapointing. The game plan was looking good going after the foreign connection (who knows how the results would have been but at least it seemed like a plan). UGH!

Re: A little Hartford news....

I am not surprised (unfortunately) that Vasic is not coming to Hartford.

But here's a question: can schools put restrictions on releasing kids from a LOI, the way they can with transfers...i.e., could Hartford have released Vasic under the condition that he not sign with Charlotte?

I'm not sure if they could have, but if they could have, I'm surprised they didn't.

I think this is done a lot less with recruits. People will hold that against you in future recruiting battles.

I know the "bad PR will haunt you forever" angle often gets played up, but I feel like that pertains more to schools who flat-out deny releases. Schools still place a small number of restrictions on kids all the time ("can't go to schools X or Y," etc), and whatever hubbub there is around it often dissipates quickly.

You could say Hartford would have nothing to gain from it other than pettiness...and that wouldn't be wrong. But it really wouldn't do any more harm to Hartford than losing Vasic already did.

So, you didn't pay attention to the Cam Johnson thing at all, did you? The restrictions thing is getting challenged, even within conferences/teams on the schedule, and getting national attention now when schools block. It's no longer a good look for coaches to get buried by national media writers every day because they don't want a kid to go to a certain school when they can jump ship whenever they damn well please.

Hey Billy! Do your impression of John Gallagher's career.

Admittedly, not really. After getting caught up...similar, but slightly different circumstances. And certainly an issue involving Pitt and UNC will draw much more national attention than one involving, say, Hartford and Charlotte. But I guess my initial question is still out there: can you restrict the release of a player from a LOI the way you can an undergrad transfer, or is it merely a "release or don't release" scenario?

VC has Vasic committed to Charlotte now

If you want to go down the path of telling a kid who hasn't even matriculated in your institution where he can't go after he decides he didn't want to go to your school, go for it, but you're not going to come out looking pretty. It's not a battle worth fighting for Hartford, or any school for that matter.

Re: A little Hartford news....

Given Vasic has a connection to Simovic, and both are foreign, would not be the best look to restrict Vasic to Charlotte- and given it's an AC leaving and not a HC, it would not be the best look either for Gallgher/new Hartford AD.

At the same time, I had no problem when UVM restricted McGlynn from going to George Washington given Lonergan already took Kopriva with him. I think each situation is different and see all the pros/cons- but at the end of the day, releasing a kid and allowing them freedom to choose most programs is generally the best overall approach.

Conference restrictions should be the only restriction.
