Steve Smith?
Steve Smith is a free agent this summer and is unhappy with his new reduced role on the SPURS. He is already publically stating that this summer he would like to return to either the HAWKS or HEAT.
IMO, he still has two more season + left in him to be productive. Also, he was the Spurs second leading scorer last season and provides great leadership and play making skills.
Any HAWKS Fans want him back if he comes cheaply?

I would take him cheap for a short term contract, if he we worked a sign and trade with a big contract of ours.
I suppose I would take him otherwise too, but I dont know if it would be moving in the right direction. He could be a mentor but we dont have any players that I can see him helping (depending on Demarrs comeback.)

Um, no. The Hawks trend of bringing in washed up veterans has got to come to an end. I loved Smitty when he was here. Thanks but no thanks

But, what about all the intangibles that he could bring to your squad: leadership, playmaking, etc.
Plus, if you watched him play at the beginning of this season on the SPURS you would see that he still has something left in the tank. He just got benched because they needed a line up change when they struggled early on and then decided to go with players that would be on the roster next season such as Jackson.
Personally, I say if he signs for the veteran's minimum, I would jump all over bringing him on board with the HAWKS. It may even bring back a few HAWKS fans to the arena - if that's possible.

If it were the vets minimum I would do it. He probably will bring fans back, and its nice to be a loyal franchise sometimes. He isnt what we need, but I dont see him hurting the team. Ithink another vet could help our lineup.

What 2nd tier veteran free agents this summer would you like the HAWKS to acquire that you feel would help the current line up?

With the guys we have now, its tough to call. Because it all depends on what we are doing with our other players. Assuming that we dont sign Terry, I think it would be intelligent to get a vet pg to come in a help Dickau , there not many I can think of off the top of my head, but that position would be an obvious hole.
I think JAmal Crawfords contract is up this year, assuming we do keep JT , he might be good for a big 1,, small 2 lineup. I know the Bulls fans are probaly gettin g impatient with him, but maybe less pressure for the starting job would help..........?
I think if DeMarr leaves we have a hole, Smtih would be good for that spot I think , but als ofor the sf.
It probably all depends on what we do with our current players but it all depends for now.

No, my question is a hypothetical given your current roster. So, for argument sake, lets say that the roster remains intact regarding the BIG THREE.
Therefore, what second tier veteran free agent do you like this summer that could come in and help this team.
Also, tell me what you would do if Babcock does not use matching rights with Terry this summer (Crawford's deal is not up this summer - if you want him, it would have to be through a trade with the BULLS).

I would probably need a full list to see posibilities. But Steve Smith would be a certain possibility. his vetern play is something we could use.
Also Antonio Daniels is someone who at the right price can be a good point guard or 2 guard. He is strong for his size, can score, and was supposed to be a great palyer when he was drafted out of bowling green.
AQntoher guy is Adrian Griffin, he isn't someone whose going to be greatly sought after but hes a good role player. He was undrafted and performed very well for the celtics and the mavericks. I could see us possibly making a run for him, that is of course if Darvin ham is let go.
Two more guys, if the Team Option is not picked up are Tracy Murray and Marcus Fizer. Fizer is a huge hussler, who had a hard time playing on such a young team, TRacy is a pure shooter like STeve who could play a nice role.
I think we are pretty locked up with the salary cap right now, but maybe we will elt go of some guys to clear things up.

Good points. But, do you really see players such as Tracy Murray and Adrian Griffin helping this team more than Steve Smith could?
Also, are you really that high on Antonio Daniels? I agree that he is a versatile player that could play either the 1 or 2 but no previous team (i.e., Clippers, Portland, etc) has been that enamored with him.
Lastly, Fizer is not a free agent this summer so there is no chance of getting him outside of a possible trade. Plus, would you really be willing to take the chance after his injury. Personally, I believe that the HAWKS cannot afford another bad move and a trade for FIZER would be too risky a proposition at this time.
What do you think?

First I thought that the Bulls had a Team Option on Fizer, I am not sure if they picked it up , but if he is a free agent I do have these opinions. He is a guy who is always hussling, also has some skills. When you see GROB or REEF looking slow or non chalant, it really upsets you. If you have a guy like Fizer who busts his *** everyday, with the right coach, he will start over one of these guys . In turn, they will be a little more motivated.
I know this sounds like alot has to happen for this to occur. But basically, if we get a guy who hussles , and some raw skills we have a reason to start him over a star who appears to be not trying. So a good coach trys to motivate (by makign him angry) by taking away his starting spot.
Thats why even after the injury I thinik his signing could be beneficial. And yes I think Fizer would bea good pick for this "job" because he is a young, player who has fundamentals
Also as for Antonio Daniels, he is someone who I could see helping us out. I think he is a Chauncey Billups guy. DO you see how Billups is doing in Detroit. They are both a bit oversized, shooters, who are strong. Daniels needs the right situation for him, and I think right now I am willing to try anythign thats not too expensive.
Murray and Griffin are guys that are lifetime roleplayers just like Steve Smith would be now. I think I would take Murray over Smith because he would be here longer and he can flat out hit the three (as can Smith). Griffin would be a good replacement for Darvin Ham if we could get rid of him somehow, or just a solid backup SF.

Okay, as far as I know, Marcus Fizer is not a free agent this summer nor does he have a team option in his contract this summer. The Bulls do, however, have the right to exercise a qualifying offer on him for the 2004/2005 season. But, that doesn't help the HAWKS this summer.
My thinking is that the HAWKS are deficient in leadership and playmaking skills. Therefore, I see Steve Smith as the best available second tier free agent for what the HAWKS can spend this summer barring some trades.
Antonio Daniels would be a decent pick up. But, all the HAWKS are doing then is adding another gifted offensive player that lacks play making skills and at times poses a defensive liability.
Plus, as previously mentioned, Steve Smith could bring back some old school HAWKS fans which would definately improve their financial and fan base situation if they are locked into the BIG THREE for an extended period of time.
