Re: OFFICIAL: 2006 Draft Day Discussion
like I said on the thread I made about Sheldon, I read on a board that Billy was on a local tv show today that Billy really like Sheldon but will not pick him automatically that he's still looking at all of his option, but he did say that he will drafta big. the show was called "Around The South" maybe ya'll know about it I don't since I don't live in Atlanta.

Re: OFFICIAL: 2006 Draft Day Discussion
I've never heard of the show.
I am 99.8% sure that Shelden will be the pick, but I am still hoping they will be able to swing a trade in the middle of the draft.

Re: OFFICIAL: 2006 Draft Day Discussion
good news the Hou and Atl deal may come back since Roy will be avalible at number 5. TOR will select Andrea, Chi is leaning towards TT, Char will select Adam Morrison, and from the Blazers board it looks like Lamarcus would be a better fit than Roy, so stay tune ya'll.

Re: OFFICIAL: 2006 Draft Day Discussion
They are saying at the hawks.com blog that Boston has dealt the 7th pick for Sebastian Telfair. If this is true, then I hope this trade puts a cork into the mouths of those that think Atlanta gave up too much to get Joe Johnson. This is a lot to give up for a guy that hasn't progressed much in his NBA career at all.

Marcus Williams falling to the 20's, wow.
And people wanted Atlanta to take him at 5?

Alexander Johnson would be TREMENDOUS VALUE at 33 right now!!!! I've felt all along the Hawks would go big with both picks.

Re: OFFICIAL: 2006 Draft Day Discussion
Well, I mentioned Solomon Jones as a possibility in my thread about possible second rounders. He brings length, rebounding, and shot blocking ability to the table. He should give the team some good depth on the inside and a guy who can play the four and five positions.

Re: OFFICIAL: 2006 Draft Day Discussion
Solomon Jones is right around 6'9" and is a little light at around 223 lbs. He's a great athlete with a long wingspan. This past season, he was second in the Big East in rebounding and averaged 13.2 PPG, 9.8 RPG, and 3.0 BPG. He was 10th in the nation in blocked shots. Against first round pick Hilton Armstrong, Jones scored 12 points with 12 rebounds and 6 blocked shots.

Re: OFFICIAL: 2006 Draft Day Discussion
I'm OK with the Jones & Williams picks. I would have liked to have seen them work a trade to get Rodriguez, or one of those guards, that went in the end of the first round. But now Billy Knight has to acquire another guard, through a trade or FA imo. Even if it isn't a bonafide starter, need another option to go to.

but what about the ownership situation, doesn't that prevent Billy from making any move?

Re: OFFICIAL: 2006 Draft Day Discussion
Mike Woodson is already talking about using the line up of Joe Johnson, Josh Childress, Marvin Williams, Josh Smith, and Shelden Williams for stretches during the game to create mismatches. Now, he didn't say that would be the starting line up, but it is pretty interesting that they already have a plan to use these five in the line up a good bit.
I think Atlanta will make a move for a veteran point guard this offseason, and a guy like Maurice Williams will be on the top of their list.
