What do you guys think of this?

Claxton's agent, Bill Duffy, told ESPN.com that Claxton has verbally agreed to sign with the Hawks on July 12, the first day free agent signings and trades can be made official.
It is believed that Claxton will receive a four-year deal worth $25 million

Re: Hawks sign Speedy Claxton...
Can't shoot outside a lick, but he's not bad as a scorer. His midrange game is actually pretty good, although he can't shoot the three at all. He has the ability to make plays and is a decent defender for his size. He's perennially near the top of the Steals/48 min stat.
For a team who could use some playmaking, this is a solid signing. Brevin Knight is a good comparison here.
EDIT: I didn't realize Claxton was 28 years old. I could have sworn he was younger than that.

Re: Hawks sign Speedy Claxton...
This is a very good signing for the Hawks and may turn out to be one of the bargains of this offseason. Speedy averaged 12.3 PPG, 4.8 APG, and 1.5 SPG as Chris Paul's back up this past season. He's a very good pressure defender who is quick, can get into the lane, and does a good job of drawing fouls. He may be a poor three point shooter, but he is a very good free throw shooter. It is a very small sample size, but in the three games that Speedy started in place of Chris Paul last season, Speedy averaged 20.7 PPG and 9.3 APG on 51% shooting. He was good with Golden State as a starter as well.

Re: Hawks sign Speedy Claxton...
KNight really didn't have any choices left.If he hadn't gotten Claxton he would have been forced to overpay in some sort of trade.Probably would have ended up getting fired halfway through the season if he didn't get some sort of PG.
Claxton has flaws. He looks for his own shot too much and he turns it over a little more than you would like, but he's a good player and the Hawks didn't have any better option unless they could have worked some sort of deal out with either Charlotte or Chicago.

Re: Hawks sign Speedy Claxton...
I've always thought Claxton was closer to a scoring pg rather than a pass first pg making this signing interesting to me. It seems the Hawks don't need anymore scorers; however, in spot last year for an injured Paul he did play well, so I guess we'll see.

Re: Hawks sign Speedy Claxton...
Nice siging, believe me I live here in NO and watch speedy alot,he's a really good scorer, but doesn't have great p.g skill, but their above average in the in of the day this was a good signing. We got him for a very cheap price too, now were in good position to give J.Smooth and J.chill an extension.
WE FINALLY HAVE A P.G, NO MORE WE SHOULD HAVE PICK PAUL OR FOYE GREAT DAY FOR ATLANTA FANS.
Now what do we do with harrington are team is pretty much set, we don't need anything else except for maybe some veteren leadership. So do we let him go?

No, you'll still hear that. That Paul one may stick around for awhile.

Not if Marvin has a breakout year, which is very likely if he get enough minutes.

Re: Hawks sign Speedy Claxton...
wow, Speedy's number pre 48 minutes are real good
SPLIT G MIN FGM-FGA FG% 3PM-3PA 3P% FTM-FTA FT% STL BLK TO PF OFF DEF TOT AST PTS
Total 71 28.5 7.2-17.5 41.304 0.4-1.5 .270 5.8-7.6 76.875 2.57 0.14 3.7 4.2 0.9 3.7 4.6 8.1 20.7
the one thing I don't like is he usually had his best seasons whe he was in his contract year.

Well if it helps for you Hawks fans he did play very well in the finals against the nets a few years ago when he was on the Spurs, in fact Coach Pop benched Parker to play Speedy at the end of the games that year. However...it was a contract year.

He also played very well for Golden State and was a guy that Eric Musselman loved. EMuss was pushing for Sacramento to sign him this offseason, but I think he knew that Speedy wanted a chance to start somewhere. Golden State traded him because, per usual, they don't realize what they have at times.
