Instead of using the No. 2 pick on Paul, they went for Marvin Williams, who was the league's most disappointing rookie. I hadn't seen him much in college, and when I saw him last season I was really surprised that he wasn't more lively on the floor. Everybody knew he was raw, but I figured he would be a Stromile Swift type whose athleticism would give him a platform to improve. Instead he turned out to be an average NBA athlete with below average basketball skills. I just can't figure out what they saw in him to warrant such a high pick, because his athleticism isn't going to improve. He looks like the kind of guy who will have to develop a face-up game or some kind of skill to take bigger guys off the dribble at power forward. He needs to forget about being the No. 2 pick and work hard to develop a niche -- just because he went high in the draft doesn't guarantee that he's going to make it in the league ...
Marvin was the consensus "best player in the draft" (according to ESPN, and all other publications) a year ago, and now he is on the fringe of not making it in the league?
