lastest info!
I *have* been given permission to present some likely scenarios that we will be doing. Note that "likely" does not mean "absolutely will do". I *can* say that I absolutely will NOT under any circumstance repeat what we are actually doing to anyone.
So that being said let me turn your attention to what I *have* been allowed to say:
1. DO NOT stop watching the draft until it is over. In fact you may have to wait for a couple of days after the draft to know what exactly we are doing. Due to the vagaries of the salary cap and next year's draft (we won't have a pick) we may very well be drafting two guys for other team(s).
2. Reread number one. There is a very good chance that the people we draft are not going to stay here.
3. If we keep the picks for real then nothing I have told you has changed over the last few weeks: Horford, Yi and Conley as a dark horse at #3 and Law, Critt or Stuckey at #11. If Conley fell to #11 I do believe he would be drafted there over the other point guards.
4. On the trade front out of the scores (and I mean scores) of offers Knight has received the most likely (stress that word) trades to happen would bring the following players to Atlanta:
Gasol
Calderon
Amare
KG
Camby
Andre Miller
Ridnour
Jermaine O'Neal
Jack
Randolph
Bynum
Unlikely:
Dwight Howard
Kidd
Kaman
Biedrins
Ellis
Richardson
And pretty much all of the off the wall scenarios you may have heard. Orlando will be faced with our offer for Howard again tomorrow night and while they will consider it they will most likely NOT sign off on the trade. Why? Because they value Howard as a big man, a face of a franchise and the fact a major trade with a division rival by its very nature is extremely unlikely to happen.
I only elaborate on that deal because it was something I was told specifically we were pursuing and while the FO would love to add him we're (probably) not going to land him.
While the above two lists are things I *can* tell you guys the players and other teams in those deals are things I can *not* tell you. I can tell you that at least two of those trades are mutually dependent on each other. That means if one trade will not go through then we will not do the other one. It should be obvious which two players fit that scenario.
I realize most (if not all?) of you guys would love for me to tell you right now what exactly we are doing but I hope you can understand why that would be disastrous for the team not to mention my sources trust in me would dry up faster than a rainstorm in Georgia's drought. I am not sacrificing years of trust, let alone friendship, over this. If this site had a private board for hawksquawk supporters only I would ask them for permission to reveal that information but even then I don't think they would.
If I receive any more information between now and draft night that they sign off on my being able to post I will update you guys then.

I hope we don't have to wait until after the draft.

More waiting is not what any of us want. Especially a Minnesota fan!

Re: lastest info!
Can you elaborate on the Amare rumor? That is one guy I would LOVE to see on the Hawks. Seeing him play alongside Josh Smith would be insane. I am guessing it'd be something like #3, 11 and Marvin though? So the Hawks wouldn't have any way to get a PG or PF? (I don't consider Shelden worth considering in long-term plans)

Re: lastest info!
This is a legitimate question, not trying to bag u here, but how does a 16 year old go about getting inside sources to a professional basketball team?

Re: lastest info!
So, can you elaborate what the Amare offer was? IDK if it was made public or not, so just wondering. I actually proposed that they should do #3 and Marvin for Amare, and YOU if I'm not mistaken said that was ridiculous. I could be mistaking you for someone else though....some Hawk jumped all over me for it anyway, and there aren't many on here lol. I'd have to give up Marvin, but Amare > Marvin, especially when Josh is the better SF anyway, and neither Josh or Marvin are ideal PFs.

Re: lastest info!
Gasol is the most likely player we'll get if we do trade the pick.
but 1 RUMOR has a three way trade, between PHX,ATL,MIN. I don't know the full trade, but Minn will get a whole bunch of picks, Atl gets Amare, Phx get Garnett. this is just a rumor, but I think it was being discussed on the radio.
EDIT:
actually it was ESPN reporting it so take it for what it worth.

Re: lastest info!
Amare would probably only be coming to Atlanta if Garnett is going to Phoenix. I'd think the Wolves would have to give up their #3 and a young player and another draft pick to make this happen.
BTW: #3 and Marvin Williams isn't enough for Amare (not to mention it wouldn't work money wise). The draft especially after the top two offers no promises and Marvin, while high on potential, has a long way to go towards being an All-NBA performer like Stoudamire.

Re: lastest info!
yeah I doubt thats gonna happen. I say lets just get horford, and pick a point or trade for one at 11, and call it a day. Unless we could get an Amare type player.

Re: lastest info!
I think the money would be close to working out for a Marvin/Amare swap, just looking at it from Atlanta's side. The Hawks will be considerably under the cap, and Amare makes around $9 million more next season than Marvin. That is the easiest, and best way for Phoenix to dump salary. If they trade with Atlanta, one of the very few teams actually under the cap by a considerable amount, they don't have to take back an expiring contract and pay on it a year. They just dump salary and get a good young player on a rookie contract and pick back instead. If I'm Phoenix, I'm all over a trade like that, if they think that Marvin and #3 is enough that is.
If that trade went down, with the biggest pieces involved being the #3 and Marvin from Hawks, Amare from Suns, and KG from Wolves, I think it's a good deal for all involved. The Suns get a veteran player to pair with their other older players Nash, Marion. The Wolves get young talent (I'm assuming from what I heard before, and if the Hawks got Amare, it'd be the Hawk's '08, Marvin, #3, Diaw, Barbosa, etc). The Hawks get an elite center to pair with Smith and Johnson, draft a PG at 11, and either make do with Shelden or trade his worthless butt for a different PF.
If the Hawks pull that off, they'll be damn good in a few years...maybe even this next season.

Re: lastest info!
Ruc Bucher was just on the radio talking about it. It be something like this.
Hawk trade:
3, 11, A.j, L.Wright
Pheonix trades
Amare
minnesota
K.g
Atlanta gets
Amare
Phoenix get
K.G
Minnesota
everything else!
My thing is I'd be happy with Amare, but we're not gonna be left with no cap room, and still no PG! But Amare/Josh/Marvin/J.J...thats ****ing scary!

Re: lastest info!
I was just notified that two of the scenarios I outlined in my last "latest information" post have been given the green light by the Hawks FO and one other teams FO in one of the scenarios. We have in fact notified the remaining teams in both scenarios that whoever agrees to the trade first will win. Knight is actively prodding them at this point going into the draft tomorrow.
Since both scenarios use some of the same trade resources both are impossible to happen. So whichever team bellies up to the bar (I am told) is going to get the deal done. All that needs to be done is for the other parties to agree to make it happen.
You guys can probably extrapolate which scenarios I am referencing and which players are involved.
