Horford: He doesn't need me to fire him up
What do you think? Do you like Horford's intensity or was it too unsportsmanlike?
Horford, who knows a thing or two about winning from two straight national championships at Florida, tried to fire up his teammates by showing them a video of Muhammad Ali's stunning win over George Foreman in 1974's "Rumble in the Jungle."
"That was something special," Horford said. "I felt like we could do something special, too."
He even showed a bit of contempt for the guys in green after hitting a clinching jumper with 22 seconds remaining. He got right in Pierce's face, prompting the Boston star to walk toward the Atlanta bench, jawing and flashing hand gestures before he was yanked back.
Horford danced away and kept right on talking, unconcerned about the ramifications later in the series.
"This is the playoffs," the rookie said. "He better be fired up. He doesn't need me to fire him up."

Re: Horford: He doesn't need me to fire him up
What a moron. Horford better be glad KG was looking the other way.
The Hawks are done. Combine the fact that Pierce was obviously ticked with the fact that Garnett is always ticked. Good night, Atlanta.
FWIW, I still thought it was funny. It was wrong and unsportsmanlike, but nonetheless funny.

wow he is really gutsy. See Horford can get away with stuff like this, if it were Noah, everyone would be crucifying him.

i agree 100%. i dont see a problem with what horford did. itd be pretty sad if it takes a rookie talking some smack to get a vet player to play one game how he SHOULD play every game in the playoffs.

But the Celts have been cruising the past 3 games. Taunting them is only asking for a massive blowout

Re: Horford: He doesn't need me to fire him up
I wonder if Horford's response was a reaction to something Boston said earlier in the game or in Boston. If that's the case, then I can understand Horford getting fired up about his team's win. The game wasn't even really close in the 2nd half.

Re: Horford: He doesn't need me to fire him up
Come on guys, its the playoffs. You don't have to like what he did but stop talking like he's being disrespectful and bringing hell on his team.
The Hawks were gona lose anyway, probably next game. Horford shows guts and emotion after hitting the game-clinching shot on Paul Pierce. It wasn't the smartest move but if I were an ATL fan I really wouldn't mind.. Also shows you he can probably be that motivator/intimidator and great locker room guy especially in the future when he matures and such.
Also, did anyone catch the hand signal Pierce gave Horford when he was staring down the ATL bench? It looked a lot like...
Paul Pierce = Crip..?

Re: Horford: He doesn't need me to fire him up
I don't mind what he did. He was fired up, and the Hawks were seconds away from pulling off a huge victory. He let his emotions get the best of him, but that's just the way things go sometimes. I'd assume he has a lot of respect for Pierce, but it was a heat of the moment type of thing.
Regardless, Pierce will get his tonight.
