So, what position do you think would be the best for us to spend a pick on in the upcoming draft?
I'd have to say, depening on your view of Acie Law, that PG may be one of our biggest holes. Having a guy that could come in and be a 3/4 tweener would also help out quite a bit. Pretty much, other than ZaZa at the C position, I am not 100% sold on our backups at any position.

If I were the Hawks, my ideal offseason would be...
1) Trade Josh Smith for Kirk Hinrich, Anthony Roberson and the 16th overall
2) Draft Ty Lawson at #16
3) Draft Gani Lawal at #19
4) Sign David Lee to a deal averaging $9-10M per season
5) Re-sign Marvin Williams to a deal averaging about $6-7M per season
6) Bring back Josh Childress to an MLE-type deal
7) Bring back Zaza to a deal at about $3M per season
8) Let Mike Bibby and Flip Murray leave
PG: Kirk Hinrich...Ty Lawson...Acie Law
SG: Joe Johnson...Maurice Evans
SF: Marvin Williams...Josh Childress
PF: David Lee...Gani Lawal
C: Al Horford...Zaza Pachulia

The 2009-2010 Los Angeles Lakers
PG: Derek Fisher, Jordan Farmar
SG: Kobe Bryant, Shannon Brown, Sasha Vujacic
SF: Ron Artest, Luke Walton, Adam Morrison
PF: Pau Gasol, Lamar Odom, Josh Powell
C: Andrew Bynum, D.J. Mbenga
I'm dead serious. This team needs to get bigger if it wants to seriously compete, and Josh Smith is too dumb to start and expect to win ball games. The Hawks need a more agile, better defensive PG than Bibby if they expect to do anything serious.

I'd assume that we're going to snatch anybody worthwhile that falls.
A guy that struck me as a nice fit for us while I was looking over the names of the upcoming prospects, Wayne Ellington. He'd be a great 6th man scoring spark. Measured out pretty nice, and he's a great 3 point shooter. What do you guys think?

After a very solid season, theres no reason to blow things up. I say we draft either lawson/Maynor/Patty Mills in that order. and resign Zaza and Marvin. And if we can't get Bibby for a resonable price, let him go.
I think it's worth giving him some minutes next season, and resigning Bibby. Bibby is a great fit in our offensive system because he isn't forced to be the primary ballhandler.
Our starting 5 is good, and Zaza needs to be resigned. However, Flip needs to get the **** out and we need a legit scoring threat off the bench. That is why I think a guy like Wayne Ellington would be a great fit because of his ability to score in bunches. Marcus Thorton would also be a nice idea. But, because we have a strong starting 5, I really think we have the luxury of picking BPA. I wouldn't be suprised to see us draft a PF who could log some minutes, or a backup (maybe future replacement) for Marvin at the 3.

Why does Flip need to get the **** out again? I thought he did a nice job coming off the bench. I don't think a rookie would be able to replace his production.

Yeah, he was one of their better players in the playoffs.
The guy's a crafty scorer, and can distribute the ball pretty well, too. Wayne Ellington's similar, but he would need time to develop.
I guess it depends whether you think the Hawks should go for it right now, or meander the EC as the fourth seed for a few years while they keep trying to draft their way to the top.

Oh, I used to have a signature.
Flip was one of their better players in the playoffs? He shot 34.6% from the field in round one, and proceeded to shoot even worse in the second round (33.3%). He also shot 29% and 26.3% from beyond the arc in the respective rounds.
He's a 6'3 2 guard with weak passing. He overachieved massively in regards to three point shooting this year. He somehow shot at 36% while being a career 30.2% shooter.
Overall I am simply not a fan of his game. That's probably just me, but I think having somebody like Wayne Ellington would be a huge upgrade. Not only is he taller (6 foot 5), but he's more athletic (38 inch vert), and a better three point shooter (shoot over 40% in college).
Ellington is one of the most effecient scorers in this years draft, which is not a trait of Murray's IMO.

The only way I see the Hawks joining the ranks of Orlando, Boston and Cleveland would be to blow the team up and draft a LeBron James/Kobe Bryant type player..
I'm not in a rush to go back to the lottery though.
