Hawks Tracy McGrady vents about lack of playing time in Atlanta

Quote:
Tracy McGrady is not happy with the amount of minutes he’s playing in his first year with the Atlanta Hawks, and after playing 4:39 in Saturday night’s 20-point loss in Portland, he made sure everyone knows it.

“I’m tired of this (bleep),” McGrady said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “You can put that in the paper, I don’t give a (bleep).”

McGrady never even got on floor in the second half against the Trail Blazers. He has played in 26 of Atlanta’s 32 games this season—none as a starter—and has averaged 17.5 minutes per game.

Referring to Hawks coach Larry Drew, he added, per the AJC, “If you don’t feel I can help, come tell me that. He ain’t told me nothing. I just want to help these guys win, man, which I know I can. But, damn, four minutes?”

A seven-time All-Star and two-time NBA scoring champ, McGrady’s career has steadily declined over the past several seasons. After averaging 15.6 points per game with the Rockets in 2008-09, he has averaged 8.2 in 2009-10 in Houston and New York, 8.0 in Detroit in 2010-11 and 6.5 this season in Atlanta.

He's not pushing for a trade, however. "Hopefully, I’m here,” he said, according to the report. “I like it here. I like the guys. ... But at the same time, I still can play. No doubt in my mind.”

Re: Tracy McGrady vents about lack of playing time in Atlanta

Tracy isn't who he used to be, but he's sure as hell still better than Willie Green. He's got a right to be mad, it's pretty ridiculous he's not starting with Marvin being out (as we're getting hammered by the Bulls).

It's just amazing that Kobe started before him, got compared to him for a bit, and is still going way past him.

At his peak, TMac was comparable to Kobe. VC was up there too. Kobe is the only one who learned to mold his game to still be dominant when the athleticism faded.

I miss Jamal Crawford

Yeah he had flaws, but he was a pretty great closer in the 4th quarter

I don't even think it's athleticism cause they stopped charging the basket before he did...they just started getting banged up and stopped caring.

Can't really argue. I used to hate Kobe, but hes proven to me over the years that hes a warrior, and TMac and Vince have proven to be anything but. Neither has shown anything but brief glimpses of playing with heart.

Re: Tracy McGrady vents about lack of playing time in Atlanta

I posted this long montage of Vince Carter's clutch plays and buzzer beaters for Toronto sometime last year....to think he turned into what he did is like someone switched his brain or something. Maybe his springs were his edge.

T-Mac just never had it upstairs I guess. I honestly think he was more talented than Kobe and LeBron. I remember reading where some scientist or whatever said McGrady was given the most impressive body and set of physical gifts of maybe any athlete ever for his sport.

I mean a 6-8/9 guy with handles, passing ability, range, explosiveness, hops, in his early days he was even blocking shots. He should've been like the Varsity guy playing with middleschoolers. It's just unfair how dominant he could've been.

Re: Tracy McGrady vents about lack of playing time in Atlanta

Vince was broken after Toronto started asking why he couldn't lead them anywhere. Once he started faking injuries and was called out for it, that was it. He just went through the motions after that.

Re: Tracy McGrady vents about lack of playing time in Atlanta

Quote:
According to ESPN’s Chris Broussard Hawks forward Marvin Williams wants out. Quoting directly from Broussard’s “True Hoop” blog: “Frustration abounds in Atlanta right now, and sources say Marvin Williams wants out because he wants to play somewhere where he’ll have an increased role offensively. Williams is averaging just 9.6 points per game, his lowest since his rookie season.”
