Dwight Howard

How real is it that we might be able to land him via trade before the deadline? I think he would want to resign here, it would help us keep Josh, and it finally gives us a stud to build around. He's playing injured right now, so we're getting him for great value.

What about Horford/Korver for Howard? Horford is a great fit with the Lakers system because of his ability to knock down the midrange shot, his passing, his mobility, and he can play defense in a halfcourt situation. Allows them to bring Gasol back into the starting lineup, and they don't have to panic when free agency rolls around and they lose Dwight for nothing. They could use a true knockdown shooter like Korver too.

I don't know that it's a perfect trade for LA, but do they really think they can hold onto Dwight in free agency?

Yes, everything I've read so far is that Dwight's going to stay in LA and he wants no part of Atlanta. If a deal did happen, I'd imagine it'd have to be more than just Horford and Korver, though. Probably have to throw in Jeff Teague by default and then add Smith or Horford. And then maybe some other guys like Stevenson, Korver, Harris, Pachulia, etc.

But this seems futile because the Lakers look like they're on track now, finally.

Yeah the Lakers recent wins do not bode well for them moving Howard, but staying in topic I don't see any way the Hawks would trade FOR Dwight Howard and not have Josh Smith still on the team. Smith is one of a few factors we have going for us in terms of attraction to Howard. If he's not interested he's not interested, but it would definitely be Horford going out and not Smith.
