Coaching Changes

http://www.hawks.com

The Hawks announced today changes to their coaching and administrative staffs with the naming of Terry Stotts and Steve Henson as assistant coaches, former Denver Nuggets star Alex English as the team’s Director of Player Development, and the addition of Hawks legend Dominique Wilkins as Player Development Assistant.

Terry Stotts has been involved in the NBA with coaching since 1983 and he joins the Atlanta Staff after spending 14 years with George Karl in Seattle and Milwaukee. During Stott's 14 year run with Karl, they were never a losing team.

Steve Henson was a Hawk during the 92-93 season and rejoined the team last year as a scout. Henson was an assistant on Kruger's Illionis staff in the 99-00 season, he also played for Kruger at Kansas State from 87-90.

Alex English began his coaching career as the coach for the Charleston Lowgators in the NBDL inaugural season. He led the team to a 36-20 record and a loss in the championship. English will be expected to assist players in on/off court development as well as assisting the coaching staff.

Dominique Wilkins, who was previously an assistant to the executive vice president, will be expected to focus on the individual development of players and provide leadership and expertise from his days as a Hawk.

Giving 'Nique and the great Alex English roles that will help the players is a definite step forward for this organization. It is interesting to note that 'Nique's new "boss" is Alex English and not vice-versa.

Henson? He wasn't a good player, but maybe he'll make a decent assistant coach.

Yeah, Henson's a good friend of Krugers. They go back aways, another candidate for the job was Evans from Denver who is also a close friend of Lons but he didn't get the job.

I think the changes in the player development/evaluation process is key. The Hawks have a bad history when it comes to evaluating talent, either on their roster or in the draft.

I really agree with you on that point and it's a very important point, as Babcock and his "scouts" obviously haven't enough talent to recognize other talent out there.

Alex and Dominique have that needed talent!

I believe the discussion was about the talent of Dominique and Alex at their new jobs. What does that have to do with 'Nique as a player in the 2nd round of the playoffs??
And who decides what/whom is overrated anywhere and again, what does that have to do with their new jobs with the Hawks?
