At large for St. Joes?

If St. Joes goes to the final and loses they'd be 18-13 with an RPI in the 40s. More impressive is their noncon RPI 14 and SOS 3. They will have won 8 in a row leading to the final. They'd have only one "bad" RPI loss to Dayton. And they will have played arguably the most difficult A10 schedule.

A solid argument could be made for their inclusion. Temple's gotten the at large with similar credentials in the past.

Re: At large for St. Joes?

There is no way we would be a 3 bud league. We allready stole one bubble spot, I doubt we get two. Beside were just gonna go win the whole thing.

Re: At large for St. Joes?

If St. Joe's had lost to GW in the finals, they might have gotten at-large consideration. Now, the only way to get a bid is to win the conference tourney.

Which isn't going to happen. Temple is going to put the clamp on them just like the last time they played.

Re: At large for St. Joes?

They might warrant consideration. According to the Pomeroy site, St. Joe's RPI is currently at 45. The Kansas win was nice, but, though I could be mistaken, they really don't have any signature wins. GW's RPI dropped to 33. That's 8 or 9 seed territory. Ouch.

http://www.kenpom.com/conf.php?c=A10

Numbers update:

Overall Conf Overall Non-Conf
W-L W-L RPI SOS RPI SOS
George Washington 26-2 16-0 33 199 104 323
Charlotte 18-12 11-5 105 122 162 191
La Salle 18-10 10-6 101 159 90 190
St. Louis 16-13 10-6 102 84 123 64
Saint Joseph's 17-12 9-7 45 26 13 4

Nonconference RPI of 13 and SOS of 4, overall RPI of 45. If they win tonight as someone else suggested their RPI would be low 40s easy. Considering Charlotte, La Salle and St Louis played easier conference schedules, again the argument could be made for their inclusion. Think anyone (Martelli, Philly media?) will make any noise about this?

Its hard to even get into the conversation at this point. The commentators have focused on certain teams (Seton Hall - Give me a friggin break). Now they don't even consider anyone else. Not that I think we belong but we should at least be added to the discussion.

Re: At large for St. Joes?

I would love to see another team get in, but St. Joe's has too few signature wins and too many total losses. If they had been the one to knock off GW then a much stronger argument could be made, what with an rpi probably moving up into the 30s and a second big win to point to, but even then it would be a stretch. 13 loss teams only get in when the rest of their resume is sterling, and their name is Kentucky, Arizona, or something similar.

Re: At large for St. Joes?

Look at the noncon SOS for 5 of the top 6 BE teams:

Connecticut 216
West Virginia 151
Pittsburgh 223
Marquette 103
Georgetown 204

What a scam.

The same Seton Hall team that lost to the 11th best team in the A-10 and then lost to Rutgers who Charlotte beat. I wish some A-10 coaches/players would put a quote out like Hicks (from Cincy) did, this would help kill the perception of the A-10.

Boy, here's a surprise.....Lunardi has his Hawks in at a 12 seed against WVU in the first round. I'm completely shocked that Lunardi would pick St. Joe's to win the A-10 now that GW is out.....COMPLETELY SHOCKED!!!!!

Doyel has Temple in at a 13 seed winning the autobid....

Re: At large for St. Joes?

How about they're:

A) The highest remaining seed

or

B) Have the highest RPI of any remaining team.

I think its called being objective.

For what it's worth, Sportsline's Mejia has X securing the autobid.

Now here's the real challenge. Can anyone find a publication predicting Fordham to take it all?

Doyle is predicting. Lunardi is just being consistent with his usual process.
