Re: NIT Field
They have to react to the NCAA brackets and contact all the teams to set up arena availability, so I don't think it's set until late tonight or early tomorrow.

Re: NIT Field
Hawks get a home game in 1st round vs winner of Penn St/Rutgers; Temple plays in opening round at home vs Akron; Charlotte gets home game in opening round vs Ga Southern. There is a heavy eastern and midwest field. N Arizone, BYU, UTEP, Stanford and Colorado are about all the western states get .

I think Charlotte's name and recent reputation got them in. UNCC, LaSalle, & SLU were all right next to each other in RPI (102-104) so you would think if one got in all of them would...

Re: NIT Field
The best thing about the NCAA taking over the NIT is that conference teams don't meet until the semis. That used to bug the crap out of me. Also, It's nice being able to see the possible path a team has to the semis, including home and away games.
One thing that won't be different between this and the big tournament is there is no way all 4 #1 seeds make the semis. I'm not even sure 1 #1 makes it.

Re: NIT Field
If you thought the seeding for the NCAA field was messed up, look at the NIT field. What did Louisville do this year, other than play in the Big East, that they get a #1 seed. Missouri St gets left out of the NCAA with a RPI of #21 and then doesn't even get a #1 seed in the NIT. Louisville with an RPI of #71 does. If Missouri St has to play at Louisville to earn a trip to MSG, that will be completely unfair. Of course I won't be surprised if Louisville loses before then.

Re: NIT Field
The Explorers should have been chosen IMO over Penn State or even Temple (who got the sympathy vote for their coach retiring).

Your OOC SOS absolutely killed you. I don't know if the committee knew that Chaney was retiring, but they did know that his team played one hell of an OOC and as much as I wish Temple would tone down their OOC, I do think it should be rewarded.
As for Penn State, I don't know much about them, but with a 106 RPI and a OOC SOS of 248 how the heck they got in is beyond me. Heck, I don't think Fordham deserved to get in, but even we deserved in before Penn State. And La Salle, based on an overall record, despite having lost to FU twice deserved in before Fordham.

Re: NIT Field
Can't vouch for accuracy, but this is how the St. Louis, La Salle and Charlotte stack up against Penn State:

SOS 1-50 51-100 101-200 201+ Non Conference L10 RD/NT
Rnk Team Conf W-L RPI SOS Rk W-L W-L W-L W-L W-L RPI SOS W-L W-L
101 St. Louis A10 16-13 .5364 .5339 85 1-6 3-2 5-4 7-1 6-6 122 62 6-4 5-9
103 La Salle A10 18-10 .5353 .4950 164 0-4 2-2 6-4 10-0 8-3 90 193 7-3 8-7
104 Charlotte A10 18-12 .5350 .5142 126 1-3 3-3 7-5 7-1 7-6 160 185 6-4 10-6
106 Penn St. B10 15-14 .5338 .5569 51 2-12 0-2 5-0 8-0 8-3 140 248 5-5 4-8

Hard to make an argument for Penn State other than a committee that feels that the B before their 10 trumps the A before ours.

Re: NIT Field
Thanks for that JoDete. After looking at those stats I can understand Penn State getting in over LaSalle. 2 wins over Top 50 teams is a no-brainer. Including a win over Illinois. We accomplished our goal which was turn it around. We did that and now our goal is to maintain it and get to the post season. I believe Coach G will get it done.

good points Mik. I think you've about summed it up for most realistic la Salle fans. Next year should be better, we hope. Now we just root for GW, Xavier, St Joe's and Temple.
