You Know your program is in trouble
When:
1) Your best player transfers to a CAA school
2) Your second best recruit fails to quailfy
3) You head coach tries to hire a moron like billy hahn and the school president shoots him down"
"Head", Dr. Jack & 6th, this is the truth don't try and deny it. the truth must hurt!

Re: You Know your program is in trouble
Guster, I hope you're not a La Salle fan. Believe me, I don't have any great love for the Hawks, but their program is far from in trouble.
1) Jalloh - while losing him hurts short term, long term his leaving is addition by subtraction.
2) Rivera - not sure of his status, but if he didn't qualify, it will hurt their depth, but it won't ruin their season. He's good, and would have helped, but he's not that good. If Martelli can't get him to recommit for next season, he'll find someone else. He already has Tasheed Carr waiting in the wings along with Govens, Carter and Lashley.
3) Don't know the particulars on how close Hahn was to getting hired, but St.Joe's made out pretty well with Duda. Things tend to work themselves out sometimes.
I just don't understand how some people get enjoyment out of the misfortune of others.

Re: You Know your program is in trouble
Oh my God, a basketball program had a guy transfer, another didn't qualify, and they had to hire a different guy for an assistant job? That's unheard of! I can't believe something like this has happened. Maybe SI can do an investigative report on what's going on at Hawk Hill and get to the bottom of such unique situations.

Your right PVP. All seven posts are dedicated to Hawk hatred. That is pretty sick. My friend Guster needs a new hobby....

Re: You Know your program is in trouble
Sounds like SLU, circa 2002 after Lorenzo Romar left.
Ryan Hollins asked to be released from his NLI - went to UCLA and started on last year's team.
Nicholas Kern did not qualify.
Jason Edwin and Randy Pulley flunked out - Edwin went on to be a decent player at Kent State, Pulley went to JUCO then transferred to Mizzou where he stunk up the joint.
John Seyfert transferred to Montana, his home state.
We ended up having a decent season that year, making it to the NIT after a lousy start to the season.

Box and Won, that is quite a off-season. I was not aware that Romar was the HC at SLU. He is doing great things at Washington, you guys should be proud. Hollins is a big loss, he has quite a post-season. Yet, here you are fielding a very decent team, I guess you guys survived. The reason that I am not worried is that SJU is bringing more heralded talent than I have ever witnessed. The two point guards are better prospects than anybody we have had not named Nelson or West. Plus we have a transfer from Iowa St. sitting out this year that we are pretty excited about. This year might be a little turbulent but I think when it is all over that we will be no worse than this past year.

The key was that we still had some good upperclassmen and some late signees who helped keep the ship afloat for a couple of years. Unfortunately, it caught up with us in the 04-05 season when our lack of depth and injuries to two key seniors wrecked the whole season and we finished at 9-23. The good thing was that one of the injuries allowed Ian to get lots of playing time which greatly assisted in his development.
Don't lose hope - I'm sure you guys will still be tough. After last year, I'm certainly not looking forward to playing the Hawks again.

I think someone told Guster that the "sky is falling" and he has still holds that belief today.

Since you asked:
Your program is probably not in trouble when:
1) you won 141 games and made 6 consecutive postseason appearances in the last 6 years
2) you have the top coach in the A-10 signed thru 2012
3)your incoming freshman backcourt is to a man more highly regarded coming into the program than the kids who left.
4)you have sent 3 players to the NBA in the past 2 years.
