Re: dayton wins first exhibition game

Congratulations to the Dayton Flyers. I’m thrilled three A10 teams have the opportunity to practice together and play some games. I’ll be rooting for all A10 teams during their OOC games.

Re: dayton wins first exhibition game

It looks like BG was trying to get erveryone some playing time. The minutes were pretty evenly distributed. Lots of missed fg by the Flyers, but nice 3pt shooting. It's good to see some scoring from London Warren, Marcus Johnson and Jimmy Binnie.

Re: dayton wins first exhibition game

Looks like Adedeji didnt do a whole lot. For a guy his size teams like York always field smaller inside guys a man his size should feast on. He should get 14pts 9rbs against a team like that. Which is why I think he will never "make it" as a legit Flyer big man.

Re: dayton wins first exhibition game

Chet, the guy is playing the 1st exhibition game of his sophmore season.

And, at least do some research, Jordan Foebel of York is 6'10 and apparently a key player for that team, was listed as a "fourth year" player in 2006 championship tourney game. Apparently UD had agood defensive performance inside, as Froebel was 2-13 from the field. Had not Dan Eves (listed as fourth year in 2006, 6'7) hit 8 -13 from 3 -point land, the game would have been a laugher.

Re: dayton wins first exhibition game

Purely looking at the stats, Des did not have a bad game IMO. The story here is that we got 26 points out of Andres Sandoval, Marcus Johnson and London Warren, where we would have been lucky to get 12 points out of Warren Williams, Marques Bennett, and Logan White last year. It looks like this game was won on strength of rebounding and defense.

Re: dayton wins first exhibition game

If Desmond ends up a 14pt 9rb kind of player before graduates, I'll eat everything I just said. I think he has a lot of potential, just not convinced yet he has the work ethic. Far more potential than Finn. But does he have the will to be a good player like Finn.

On the good side the early reports are Huelsman is hanging in there pretty well.

I kinda thought his first game was a classic "BWS"ish. I hope it doesn't continue like this or we will really have fish in a barrel smack.

Re: dayton wins first exhibition game

My main concern with Des is whether he will fit in with the up tempo offense that ud is reportedly transitioning to.

Re: dayton wins first exhibition game

The center being a slow-footed widebody doesn't hinder a team from running. See Gonzaga with J.P. Batista and Louisville with Ellis Myles for recent examples.

Gonzaga and Louisville weren't considered running teams, although I agree that one plodder doesn't have to hurt a running team.

Re: dayton wins first exhibition game

Baptista could get up and down the court and would finish anything inside. Well, he could also shoot FTs.

Pretty much everything at this point Dez cannot do. He IS only a soph though.

Re: dayton wins first exhibition game

You're right, Batista did move pretty well for a big man. Eric Williams, when he was plodding in the uptempo offense led by Chris Paul, would be a better example.
