Dukes - Explorers

Dukes just won 101-84, interested in any reports from those who watched/listened.

I thought the Explos had a pretty good chance to win this but they were down 10-15 all half.

Re: Dukes - Explorers

Blue Dog, Dukes shot well again. 55% from the field, 37% from 3, and 24 for 28 from the FT line (21-23 in the 2nd half). LaSalle made several runs, once cutting it to 2 in the second half. But the Dukes scored 9 straight to get the game back in control. LaSalle did not shoot well; 24% from 3. Harris only 2 for 8 from 3. Dukes outrebound LaSalle 41 to 32. Explorers could not stop ball penetration by the Dukes guards. Conventional substitution pattern by the Dukes; even played Achara and James together (probably 12 to 15 minutes) for really the first time this year. Achara had 21, Reggie Jackson 19, Aaron Jackson 18 and Gary Tucker 16 points; Rodney Green had 24 for LaSalle. Dukes played without Kojo Mensah, who had a bad strep infection. Very good effort in a row by the Dukes.

Re: Dukes - Explorers

I can't explain it but the Explorers are not ready to play from the tip at home. They did not wake up on defense until the middle of the first half and the offense was poorly run for the first 5 minutes. Duquesne was allowed to roam in the paint all day and then they rained some clutch 3s - great for a team that is not known for that. Credit goes to the Dukes for playing well the majority of the game.

Dukes making a habit of putting up 100+ lately. Getting scary for the rest of the league!

Thanks for the reports guys. Looks like losing at Bona woke up the Dukes.

I'm waiting on Wednesday's result to determine if the Dukes are awake.

Re: Dukes - Explorers

I think the Dukes are starting to hit their stride. The more minutes Tucker and the Jacksons play the more effective they are. Without the turnover machine (Mensah) these guys stepped it up. The passing has been crisp and these three don't over dribble and are unselfish. Hopefully, they'll continue to get the majority of minutes. Anyway I'll keep picking against the Dukes in the contest as long as they keep winning.

Re: Dukes - Explorers

One other point, the Dukes had another 11 blocked shots today. Achara had 5 (tying his career high); Shawn James had 4. Duquesne set a new single-season record for blocks in a season with 167. The old mark of 166 was set in 28 games in 1979-80. The Dukes have blocked 26 shots in their past two games (school record-tying 15 vs. Saint Joe's and 11 at La Salle)
