question about dayton and dayton arena
for either anyone on here that are either dayton fans, traveled to dayton for road games, or who have ever been to the play-in-game.
as you can tell i'm a sacred heart fan. if we beat mount st. mary's tonight, were more then likely going to dayton for the PIG, unless we get upsets in other conference tournaments (elon would've helped us). anyways, how far is the airport from the school?? how many people does the arena hold?? if i went to the dayton box office on tuesday would i be able to get a ticket for the game that night, or would i have to reserve one through the school??
thanks for the help, and answers by monday would be greatly appreciated.

Re: question about dayton and dayton arena
12 miles, 13,411, yes
You can rent a car or take a hotel shuttle or taxi from the airport. The playin game usually get 7 or 8,000 people in an arena that seats 13,000. No problem getting a ticket. If you want to sit with your school, those will be sold thru the school.

Re: question about dayton and dayton arena
Depending on Traffic, you're about 20 min from the airport to the arena. You should be able to get a ticket pretty easy, and I imagine even a lower bowl ticket.
If you're looking for a place to stay, there is a new hotel directly across from the arena that the school just built. I imagine its nice, and probably where one of the 2 teams will stay, but there is not much directly around it, other than the arena. If you cross the river there is a Mariott a little bit closer to the arena (probably the location the other team will play if they attempt to seperate them from hotels like they do for the first 2 rounds). I could be wrong, but those would the logical places for the teams to stay, and definently for you to stay.
If you're looking for a place to eat, the Pine Club on Brown Street directly in front of campus is the place where most of the out of town announcers eat when they're hear. Good steaks, but bring cash, they don't take credit. Looking for something a little cheaper, there are several places around campus that you can grab a bit to eat. I'll suggest Milano's (also on Brown, as is anywhere else that you'll eat) for subs. I think there's also a Dewey's pizza (SW ohio pizza joing similar to a california pizza kitchen),BW3, a Chipotle, Rolly Polly (sub chain, I'm not sure how spread out it is, they just recently came to the area) and several other fastfood and sit down joints. The mariott close to campus also has a decent restaurant and bar as far as hotel bars go.

I gotta say, I'm a big fan of the Pine Club. That is one thing that Dayton did right.

Re: question about dayton and dayton arena
Another thought, the Cincy airport is maybe a little more than an hour away, straight shot up I-75. If you can get the right price, might be a good option. Another option would be Indianpolis, which is about 2 hours away on I-70.

Re: question about dayton and dayton arena
UD parking is a gridlock mess to get out of after a regular season game, but should be OK for a PIG.
Pause. I swear that started out innocently enough.
One advantage is that you are right next to I-75, and can actually get back to the airport and fly out that night if you want.
Ditto on Pine Club. Old timey steak house, basic and very excellent steak and potato and bourbon crowd.

Re: question about dayton and dayton arena
I never got the complaints about traffic after a UD game. You get out of the lot in less than 20 minutes, even if you are in the low rent parking area. I probably average 10 minutes.
UD Arena is close to campus, but not on campus. From the airport, take the airport access road to I70 East, 1 mile after hitting 70, take I75 south. Follow I75 south through downtown. Get off on Edwin Moses Blvd, just south of downtown. Take a left on Edwin Moses, and there you are, basketball nirvana. It should take you just ten to fifteen minutes unless it's rush hour.
I recommend Jays if you like seafood:

Elvis......For those of us who don't park in reserved areas...ie visitors...the lot that wraps around Welcome Stadium had one exit, maybe two lanes. Some times you were forced to go back towards town and could not even go back to I-75. In other years, if you turned right you ran into the exiting cars from the reserved areas. I've waited 30-40 min after getting to my car. By that time, any decent place to eat in Dayton is packed with a waiting line.

I have parked in the far lot many times. I occasionally have given up my A lot parking pass to friends. If you park about 200 feet from the exit/entrance, you are in the best position for the post game rush, and you won't be waiting long. There are two exits from that lot. One is a gate that opens after the game and exits onto Stewart street, through a residential area, and the other one exits onto Edwin Moses Blvd. The Edwin Moses exit is my favorite. The Stewart Street exit is too chaotic.

Re: question about dayton and dayton arena
Some comments:
Consider getting a hotel room Dayton North, especially on Miller Lane. It's close to the airport, and the nicer places will have a free (or cheap) shuttle bus. There's a million chain restaurants and some nice hotels there. You can go out and get plastered after the game, and still stumble back to your hotel.
The Pine Club on Brown Street near campus is worth the money. Think old-fashioned steak house. The Pine Club is the stereotypical old-fashioned steak house. On a Tuesday, they shouldn't be too busy, even before a game. Be there when the door opens at 5:00 to be comfortably on time for the 7:00? tipoff.
Parking in D Lot can be brutal. A, B, and C are far superior and easy to use. I don't remember the parking rules, since I haven't been to the PIG in two years. Since the place won't be full, I would think you'd be allowed to park in one of the good lots? Or just skip the rental car and take a taxi to/from the game.
Seriously shop Cincinnati and Columbus airports as a travel alternative. Both are about 1:15 from the arena and are often much cheaper than flying to/from DAY. YMMV.

I always use the back exit. It can get, how should I say...crowded, but once you turn left it's clear sailing. Two more lefts puts you right back on Edwin C Moses. a right on ECM and a left on Dryden leads you right to I-75.
I've found that I probably get home 10 minutes faster that way most of the time. Of course, I always stay for the coaches show because there's absolutely no reason to rush out right after the game if you're in lot D.
