Re: OT: Gas prices, what have you paid
I always fill up at the reservation before heading back home whenever I visit Olean. The only difference in the gas is the amount of tax on it.
Premium gas was about $1.20 a gallon when I bought my Corvette. I wondered if I had lost my mind at that time, buying such a toy. I'm afraid to calculate how much I pay per mile to drive the thing now when I factor in insurance, registration, etc. along with fuel costs. I'd probably be better off renting one a few times a year.

Ethanol is a waste. I only mentioned it because it won't give you the same mileage plus it's cost too much to produce and cause a cripple effect with our farming needs.

We just purchased three new vehicles in the span of a year in our family, and trust me, that was at the top of my mind. Before, I was nervous paying $2.50 a gallon driving our Volvo SUV. Well, when we got rid of that, we decided to go to a Honda SUV. Now, I'm wishing we would have gone to a Honda car.
Used to have a convertable as well. It was a sad day when I let it go, but living here in Olean it just didn't get as much use as I'd like.

Re: OT: Gas prices, what have you paid
By the way, about the reservation, I don't have a problem filling up there when I'm going through it, but I won't drive all the way to Salamanca and back just to fill up.
The problem is, with the addition of the beautiful new casino, I seem to be going through there more than I should....

The late Thomas_Gold, an Austrian astrophysicist, subscribed to the theory that oil is of abiogenic origin. Those wiki links will give you some background. The fact that pressure at some wells off the coast of Louisiana is now increasing after years of decreasing makes one wonder about this theory.

I have heard of this "re-viveable" resource theory. Yes, one wonders. Besides, there appears to be plenty out there. However, we need a true breakthrough invention, the combustion engine hasn't changed in what, 100years, while not much else has stayed the same.

Re: OT: Gas prices, what have you paid
This is a very painful, paying $3.53 gal for gas and fear heating oil could even be higher next season. What have I done about, I'm advancing my plans on retiring my Dakota a bit early from my 135 mile round trip to work and buying a car two years earlier this December. I like Honda's but have always bought my truck from the same dealer so I may opt for a 4 cylindar Sebring. For the first time in 12 years, I convinced my wife that we have to use the Dutchwest stove. Hopefully save at least 200 gallons of oil using the wood stove. I still have get my a$$ up on the roof to clean the chimney.

Re: OT: Gas prices, what have you paid
I've been interested in biodiesel for years now. I've contemplated getting a diesel car but biodiesel congeals in the cold much easier than petroleum diesel fuel and that's a big factor in Pennsylvania. As far as ethanol goes, it is crazy to try and use corn to produce it. Sawgrass and hemp are much more cost effective but they also are still too expensive at this time.

Re: OT: Gas prices, what have you paid
with a 40 minute commute and a lot of driving for my job, i've been forced to change my driving habits. it's either that or not eat and the big guy's gotta have food.
it's all good though because my bottled air empire is just getting off the ground...

Glad to hear that a school is actually doing something. Wish Bona would join in.
