Counting down the most prestigious programs since 1984-85
ESPN making a list: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3481014
UMass comes in at #42.
Xavier and Temple will almost certainly make the list - how high?
SJU will probably make the list - how high?
Will URI, Dayton, or anyone else make the list?

I have a feeling that X will be in the 26-30 range, because THE MAN doesn't want to put us in the top 25 programs...

Regardless of what "the man" wants, Xavier's rank will be determined by where it falls in the point system. Of course they could have rigged the point system to insure that Xavier falls outside the Top 25.....hmmmm.

vandy tied for 96th, just ahead of the Vols!
I look for Temple to be ahead of X in the long run of 24 years, but X will get some major points from their days in dominating the mcc. that will be interesting showdown. would also like to see what the last 10 years look like.

Is the top program going to be crowned "Titletown?" as well?

Unfortunately, this just goes to show how irrelevant most A10 teams have been the past 25 years. Let's hope that we can start getting 3-4 bids per year again.

URI's ranking is below where it should be in my view. The Rams went to the NCAA Tournament 5 times in this span. Four of the bids were At-Large
as only the 1999 bid was an automatic (won the A-10 Tournament on Odom last second shot). Rhody was 6-5 in the NCAA Tournament with an Elite-8 in 1998 and a Sweet-16 in 1988. Two of the five NCAA losses were in OT (Purdue in 1997 and Charlotte in 1999).
In this same time frame, Rhode Island appeared in six NIT Tournaments with a record of 6-6.

Re: Counting down the most prestigious programs since 1984-85
I would agree that seeing RI ranked below LaSalle and even possibly GW was a surprise. GW has been solid, too, but hasn't made noise in the tournament during this span except one Sweet 16 in the early 90s.

Re: Counting down the most prestigious programs since 1984-85
I would like to say that Jim O'Brien sucks. The Flyers are also hurt by their 84 Elite 8 happening one year before the expansion.
Seriously though, an NIT title is worth double what an NCAA berth is, and just getting to the NIT counts the same as getting to the dance. That's retarded. Almost as retarded as Jim O'Brien.
ESPN just can't help but "list" everything. Who's now?
