Dan Geriot possibly out for season. Crap! Here's to hoping the Aussie big man can step in and fill his shoes.

In other news, spiders begin practice this weekend. They get an early start with a preseason trip to Spain - they depart on August 10th.

I'm sorry to hear that. Geriot's a good player and clearly an important cog in the Spider rotation. I am curious though about the last sentence in the link article above. Who is projecting the Spiders to be one of the "best" teams in the league next season? I know USA Today is saying good things, but it's a stretch to say one of the "best". I expect UR to be more competitive than last year's very young team, but I think a lot of the league is going to be better than last year as well.

With Geriot, I'm guessing WH would have had us predicted around 3. Just a guess. We returned basically everything from the 4th place team.

Wow. He's probably my favorite non-Flyer in the A10 right now (him or Nivins). It's not a season killing type thing, but it will greatly effect the quality of the team. Geriot is a player, possible first teamer.

Adam, thanks for the well wishes. We finally were beginning to feel good about some depth inside and in general on the roster, now the 4/5 positions are wide open and unknown. A lot of us are banking on our Aussie recruit (Duinker) to be good, but he will be a freshman and this is just speculation obviously.

I have also been quite impressed with Geriot in particular and the ever-growing competitiveness of the Spiders as young Coach Mooney builds that program back to become the darlings of the NCAA Tourney as they were not so very many years ago. A tough Richmond is one of the reasons the A-10 grew in respect and RPI status this past year. We need more programs to pattern themselves after the rising Spiders.

I just want the team I support to be in a stronger conference. I'd prefer it to be a stronger A-10! To me that would mean every member would have at least 2 trips to the NCAA Tourney and 5 winning seasons during each 10-year cycle. It would also be great for every program to seriously challenge for a league title (either regular season or Tourney) at least once during that same period of time.

I liked Geriot. Richmond benefited big time from the unbalanced schedule last year however. I hate the unbalanced schedules.

I hope it turns out that he can play this year. Richmond of course needs him, and the league needs players like him too.
I wanted to see him at LaSalle but I have to admit he is a real good fit in Mooney's system.
