It has now been a week since Chris Cantino publicly committed to Xavier, but there has been no mention of him by Xavier University.

Academic clearing problems ?

This is probably a waste of time, but university's cannot publicly comment on the addition of a players addition until he signs a LOI or if he chooses to simply sign a financial aid agreement - when classes start.

Signing a LOI is a choice, a choice I'll encourage my son not to make, it's becoming much more common that's the way a kid will go.

Thanks Title_BU, but I was already aware of that, as well as the fact that classes for Xavier's fall semester began five days ago:

Fall 2012 Important Dates and Deadlines (Xavier University)

Monday, August 20: FALL FULL-TERM CLASSES BEGIN AT 4:00pm, except labs.

August 20-26: Late registrations, Course drop/add period.

Sunday, August 26: Last day for late registrations / Last day for adding classes.

My question still stands.

The relevant date you are looking for is the drop/add date, the latest a person can join classes for full semester credit

Why is that the relevant date? I thought that once he steps into his first class he is officially an athlete on scholarship (assuming he is actually on scholarship). So if he were to transfer, for instance, he'd have to sit out a year. I know the date you mention is the last point at which they can still join, but I thought that once in class they were official.

With the latest saga with Chris Thomas, will he ever enroll in a college?

Just for a little background on Thomas before answering the question, he was a top five prospect in the 2013 class and originally from Denver, Colorado.

This year he was at South Kent Prep School. Things fell apart there, however, and Thomas just recently enrolled at Marianna (Fla.) Chipola Junior College.

Thomas, a 6-foot-4 guard, will not play until the 2012-2013 season. Until then he will work to get his GED while taking classes.

Now, will he ever enroll in a four-year college?

I don't think the odds are good.

Even though Thomas has a long road to travel to get his academics in order to qualify for a four-year school, he could very well accomplish that mission and become eligible.

However, as an original member of the 2012 class, Thomas would be eligible for the 2013 NBA draft.

Assuming he gets his academic situation to a point where he is eligible to play Division I basketball, I would expect that his play on the court would be highly intriguing to the NBA.

It is easier for me to see him in a NBA uniform before he is in a Division I school's uniform.
