What ever happened to Chris Cantino? He has completely disappeared.

Small forward Chris Cantino (Philadelphia, Pa./Palm Beach C.C.) has committed to Xavier.

His former coach at Rise Academy, Sam Rines, posted the following to his Twitter account:

"Chris Cantino has decided to attend Xavier. He committed to Iona at first but it was without moms blessing. Mom wanted Chris away so......"

The 6-foot-7, 220-pounder was rated as a two-star coming out of Rise Academy in 2010.

Chris Cantino (Shannon Russell, Cincinnati Enquirer - August 21, 2012 at 7:58 PM)
There have been multiple reports today saying Xavier landed 6-foot-7 junior college small forward Chris Cantino. Cantino comes from Palm Beach State in Florida.

Sam Rines, his prep school coach at Rise Academy, Tweeted this: "Chris Cantino has decided to attend Xavier. He committed to Iona at first but it was without moms blessing. Mom wanted Chris away so......"

The Musketeers could take all the help they can get at this point.

With Dez Wells gone - and Kenny Frease, Mark Lyons, and Tu Holloway - so are 52.6 of the team’s average 70.6 points from last year.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shannon Russell deliberatelty omitted the 'hard' information about Chris Cantino, which is readily available:

2012 JucoJunction Top 150 (Rivals.com / JucoJunction)

# 62 Chris Cantino (Rivals.com / JucoJunction profile)

Chris Cantino - Change of Plans (Rivals.com / JucoJunction - August 18, 2012)
"I recently visited Xavier and I will be going there now," said Chris Cantino.

Chris Cantino played his freshman season at Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kansas.

Cantino played last season at Palm Beach State College in Lake Worth, Florida.

Palm Beach State College - Official 2011-12 Basketball Statistics (NJCAA.org)
Chris Cantino was third in scoring on his team last season.

Chris Cantino - Official 2011-12 Basketball Statistics (NJCAA.org)
Scoring: 12.0 PPG

Rebounding: 9.0 RPG

FG Shooting: 124 for 273 (45%)

3-PT Shooting: 1 for 14 (7%)

FT Shooting: 75 for 123 (61%)

Bottom Line: Chris Cantino does not appear to be an A10-calibre player.

Well, you got zero star price from off the lousyiana bayou. Backup? Compare.

"I have no idea what he’s known for, no one does. But if he can back up Kevin Dillard for 8-10 minutes a night and not be terrible as a freshman....." ringing endorsement of Price on BB review

GiveNGoBasketball - there is already a thread for such posts.

There is no need for a new thread for every prospect who is considering Xavier.

I thought Muddie said that after this years debacles that NO recruit would ever consider Xavier again. HMMM another lie in a long line of fabricated statements.

Welcome aboard GiveNGo and keep up the good work. Feel free to start a thread about a Top100 Xavier target anytime you like.

Muddy, didn't you just have an essay on here stating how it would be near impossible for Mack to keep his #16 recruiting class or land anymore highly rated recruits?

Yes, indeed, you did. This week, in fact. Muddy EDITED, what do ya know? Indeed.

There is a definite pattern emerging in Chris Mack’s recruiting:

Stainbrook, a starter all season for WMU, sat the beginning of both halves of Wednesday night’s CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament win against Tennessee Tech.

"It’s not a big deal but at the same time, there’s a certain way we’re going to conduct ourselves," Hawkins said. "Just needed to remind them a little bit that "representing the university, representing our basketball program, representing the city is more important than winning."

The basketball coaches of the BCS-conference schools stopped recruiting HS junior Chris Thomas in January 2012 because he has been a behavioral issue for a long time and was on thin ice to being with.

Thomas undermined the coaching staff and caused issues with his teammates at four different high schools before he dropped out of high school altogether in January 2012 and decided to pursue his GED instead.

What is Chris Mack thinking ?

Re: Is Cantino gone? (Iona Hoops Message Board - Reply #6 on August 16, 2012)
Word was that Cantino was a head case, so perhaps we shouldn't be surprised.

If this is how he handles things, his departure now is probably for the best. For Iona at least.

Let him go screw up at Xavier.

Walnut Hills Center Isaiah Johnson Commits to Akron (Cincinnati Enquirer - September 21, 2012)
Walnut Hills senior center Isaiah Johnson has verbally committed to Akron, according to the Walnut Hills basketball program.

Johnson, who is 6 feet 9, also had offers that included Ohio University, Kent State, Xavier, and Northern Kentucky University.

Re: Xavier recruiting

Recruiting is kinda like Battleship. The misses and hits seem to come in bunches. Look at Rhody this week.

Purely a guess, but I think Xavier gets the hit they need when Ron Patterson visits soon. I know they almost had him before he chose to prep. And I don't think him prepping at Brewster was entirely coincidental. Mack and the Brewster coach are quite close...
