Re: Xavier recruiting
He recruited the #16 recruiting class in the nation this year. Yes, Flyer, you read that correctly. The #16 class in the nation. Unfortunately the NCAA isn't allowing 2 of the 4 to play until next year.
Not surprised by this news. The further this dragged out, the less and less likely Patterson would end up at X. Par for the course for this offseason, though. Rough break.

Re: Xavier recruiting
And if it was Mack's coaching that earned him 2 A-10 championships, 3 NCAA tourneys and 2 Sweet 16's in 3 years... hell, he's a pretty elite on-the-floor coach then, right, Flyer? He even won the A-10 and made an NCAA appearance with a team so thin they had non-scholarship walk-ons playing significant minutes.
Given your interpretation, Flyer, of Xavier's success during Mack's tenure, I can't wait to see what he can do with this team.

Re: Xavier recruiting
I'm sorry, but Chris Mack has won zero A10 championships. He's won two regular season titles. That would be like the Vancouver Canucks claiming a championship for winning the President's Trophy.

Recruiting is such a fragile thing. Tools we generally think are important (facilities, history, playing time) all take a back seat to momentum. New assistants + perception a player was booted unfairly = all recruiting just kinda ends. Xavier really needed Patterson to begin to get the momentum back. Mack will be spending a lot of "free" time on the road this winter and spring. More than usual.

In fact, the general consensus w/ people close to the X program is Mack is a better recruiter than on-the-floor "X's & O's" coach. Opposite of what Flyer was implying.

However, in regards to your second paragraph, (recent) history (which is the only type of history that matters) and momentum are very similar. I don't think you can make the argument a program has momentum if they has no success which to speak of over the past 5 years.

Conversely, a program like Cincinnati is making huge strides and still struggles for recruiting momentum. Momentum is a separate entity.

Re: Xavier recruiting
I'm not that familiar with Rhode Island but I don't consider grabbing 1 or 2 decent to good recruits as the program having momentum.
I would consider UC certainly as a program with momentum behind them. I just disagree with that statement that everything takes a backseat to so-called momentum when a particular program hasn't had any success to point to over the past few years. Momentum in that case is non-existent.
