Re: Xavier recruiting
I hope the last few days quell some of the deepest fears and predictions from our friends up I-75N and throughout the A-10 that just no one (particuarly 4-stars) wants to come to Xavier anymore and Mack magically forgot how to recruit overnight. (But that was a fun few months to allow everyone to predict that Xavier would fall of the face of national basketball map).
Interesting though he's from TX... not sure of any connections we had down there..

Re: Xavier recruiting
I read he had offers from SMU & Texas A&M with the likes of Kansas, Memphis and Baylor on the way?? Really is a good get by Mack & staff.

Re: Xavier recruiting
Just have to hold the breath for 12 months. Kid was getting interest from some MAJOR programs. I guess I have mixed feelings on his next summer. Don't want him to blow up but you can't turn down the verbal either. Hope this kid is like Wells in that he didn't waiver when the bigs came calling.

Re: Xavier recruiting
Well this is quite the surprise and some really good news for the future of Xavier basketball. Kid is a consensus 4 star, top 75 player. Thin kid at 6'7, 195lbs, but ultra athletic with an improving skill set.
Hearing Xavier is also in really good shape with another 2014 4 star forward by the name of Shane Hall. How about some Muddy type links? Future150.com - (Melvin Swift Profile) Ranked #58 by Rivals in Class of 2014 Ranked #61 by Scout in Class of 2014 ![]() Youtube.com - (Melvin Swift dunks everything) Blip.tv - (Melvin Swift dunks on competition) From reading some premium content, he had an offer from Arizona as well. Interest from UK, Memphis, Texas, etc. Gonna be a long wait until next November when he can sign a LOI.

Re: Xavier recruiting
Gee, I wonder who is recruting all these studs? Couldn't be Mack, he was said to not be able to get any 4 star/top 150 guys ever again! He should be looking for the totally unknown 1 asterisk Looosiana guys like K Price! Now there a steal!

Re: Xavier recruiting
Yea, somehow Mack magically remembered how to recruit.
It looks like X assistant coach Ashley Howard was really the force behind landing this recruit. Although, some people on this board don't give assistant coaches credit for recruiting or program success. Any recruiting success Xavier had while Mack was associate head coach... well he doesn't get any credit for the first half of Xavier's decade of dominance according to some on this board..

Will he ever be a great player? Probably not. I think at Xavier, a lot better program than NMSU, he could've developed into a decent big man. Heck, with a point guard like Dillard or any good PG, he would probably be on the receiving end of a lot dump offs for dunks. You still can't teach the size he possesses. His problem will always be mobility and stamina though.

Re: Xavier recruiting
But back to Xavier recruiting. 4 star guard Brandon Randolph was on an official visit to Xavier this past weekend.
Commitment coming? We'll see.

Re: Xavier recruiting
Someday Archie will land a high school recruit with a 2 digit Rivals ranking. I'm sure of it.

Re: Xavier recruiting
He was always going to be a high risk but (potentially) high reward recruit. Definitely not the kind of player we would have expected early production from. Jury is still very much out on him.

Re: Xavier recruiting
First of all, I apologize for the Muddy-like post. I'm not saying that recruiting alone leads to championships, but it is a huge part. The talent disparity between X and the rest of the league is still pretty wide. To illustrate, I have the high minute players for the top 3 preseason teams, Butler and Xavier listed below. I tried to keep in mind any players who are suspended and will contribute later.
Xavier Stars based on scout.com Semaj Christon 5 Dee Davis 4 Justin Martin 4 Jeff Robinson 3 Brad Redford 3 Isaiah Philmore 3 Travis Taylor NR Erik Stenger NR St. Joes Langston Galloway, Jr. 3 Chris Wilson 3 Ronald Roberts 3 Halil Kanacevic NR C.J. Aiken 3 Daryus Quarles 3 Papa Ndao 4 Carl Jones 3 St. Louis Kwamain Mitchell 3 Mike McCall Jr. 2 Jordair Jett 2 Rob Loe 2 Dwayne Evans 3 Cody Ellis 3 Grandy Glaze 3 Keith Carter NR VCU Darius Theus 2 Juvonte Reddic 3 Troy Daniels 3 Treveon Graham 2 Rob Brandenberg 2 Briante Weber 2 D.J.
