Former 5-star commit Chris Thomas followed former X assistant Rasheen Davis to Manhattan. Committed and signed.

Not really surprising. His relationship was with Rasheen Davis and not Xavier University. Very similar to Beasley going to K-State instead of Charlotte after their assistant went there (sorry can't remember his name).

I think Chris Mack is happy with his recruiting class seeing as how things went this summer.

So next year we have Jalen Reynolds, Myles Davis, Kamall Richards, Brandon Randolph, and Matt Stainbrook, oh yeah, and Cantino coming in. Altho not all officially "recruits for 2013", Top 15 in anybody's book.

Not in the mind of UD fans. Don't you forget the mantra on here a few months ago... Mack simply can't recuit.

I always find it interesting that fans of such a mediocre program that has no national standing finds it necessary to make any negative comments they can about Xavier, especially when those comments tend to come when Xavier wins. An example of this is when stupid comments are made about a stud Xavier freshman. Christon clearly has already demonstrated that he'll be a force on Victory Parkway - fo as long as we can keep him there. We're 6 games into the year. He'll only get better in every aspect of his position as we go from here. "Worrying" about his defense at this point seems petty, given how he personally otherwise carved up Drexel and played against a seasoned Drake team today.

Seriously, why wouldn't you just track the progress of your own crap program, hoping that it finally can accomplish something worthwhile?

I understand that it's the Internet and that it's a message board and everything that comes with that, including freedom of speech (especially here), but that would be the point: exhibit a little self control, rather than exhibiting your obsession with Big Brother.

BTW, Big Brother is 5 - 1.

Chris Mack's Recruiting at Xavier (Banners on the Parkway - October 2, 2012)
Since he was hired before the 2009 season, Coach Mack has landed at least 15 verbal commitments, many from highly-rated recruits. Standing on the cusp of the 2012-2013 season, though, only five of those players are on the Xavier roster.

How have so many players gotten away from Xavier?

Coach Mack has established a reputation as an up-and-coming young coach, thanks in large part to his two conference championships and two Sweet Sixteen appearances in his first three years at Xavier.

The stars and most of the role players on those teams - Jordan Crawford, Tu Holloway, Mark Lyons, Jason Love, Kenny Frease - were brought in by Sean Miller.

Beginning with this season, the Musketeers should be seeing the fruits of Coach Mack's recruiting since being named the Head Coach.

Here is a year-by-year breakdown of players who have verbally committed to Xavier under Mack's watch and what they are doing now:
(Description of each of Chris Mack’s 15 commitments.)
The bottom line is this: programs at Xavier's level are built on talented incoming players developing into functional upperclassmen. Missing one one or two players hurts a school; missing on a whole class leaves a gap in the ranks when those players should have been juniors and seniors.

Mack was hamstrung by his late promotion in 2009 and whiffed on the 2010 class. He lost the gem of the 2011 class when Dez Wells was expelled and again ran into eligibility issues in the 2012 class.

This should be the time where the team is transitioning to all players recruited by Coach Mack.

Instead, there are eight scholarship players on the roster, holes are being plugged by transfers, and the whole thing seems poised on the brink of collapse.

This year is going to be a huge challenge for Xavier on the court, but what happens on the recruiting trail may well determine the success or failure of the program for the near future.

Chris Mack's HS Prospect Commitments (15):

(1) 2009: Jeff Robinson ==> senior at Xavier.

(2) 2010: Jay Canty ==> transferred to Appalachian State after his freshman year.

(3) 2010: Jordan Latham ==> transferred to Loyola - Maryland after his freshman year.

(4) 2010: Griffin McKenzie ==> transferred to Denver after his sophomore year.

(5) 2010: Justin Martin ==> academically ineligible his freshman year; RS sophomore at Xavier.

(6) 2011: Michael Chandler ==> decommitted from Xavier on November 11, 2010.

(7) 2011: Dezmine Wells ==> expelled from Xavier after his freshman year.

(8) 2011: Darwin Davis ==> sophomore at Xavier.

(9) 2012: D'Vauntes Smith Rivera ==> decommitted from Xavier on December 26, 2010.

(10) 2012: Sim Bhullar ==> decommitted from Xavier on August 24, 2011.

(11) 2012: Myles Davis ==> academically ineligible; non-scholarshipped freshman at Xavier.

(12) 2012: Jalen Reynolds ==> academically ineligible; non-scholarshipped freshman at Xavier.

(13) 2012: Semaj Christon ==> freshman at Xavier.

(14) 2012: James Farr ==> freshman at Xavier.

(15) 2013: Chris Thomas ==> decommitted from Xavier on September 30, 2012.

Only 5 of Chris Mack's first 15 HS prospect commitments will be playing on the 2012-13 edition of the Xavier Musketeers.

Coming from a LaSalle fan, do you have any idea of how widely open you left the door for a next comment?
