Re: Xavier recruiting
It's 5. With no ties. And the tournament title every time to boot. And during a period when the league was averaging more than 3 NCAA teams a year, as well as 2 or 3 NIT teams at the same time.

Re: Xavier recruiting
I heard that Jake O'Brien decided to go back to BU rather than accepting Xavier's offer. Mack wanted that kid a lot, from what I hear.

Re: Xavier recruiting
Please DO NOT quote SB or any other member of the cryer quintet. I, like many others I suspect, have them on "ignore" for a reason.

Re: Xavier recruiting
With Noel Johnson's committment to Clemson, it's official now:
Xavier was 0-for-27 in their offers to HS Class of 2009 prospects, which is quite likely a new NCAA record for futility for a team coming off of a NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 appearance. Xavier Offers to HS Class of 2009 Prospects So much for reloading. Xavier has 3 unused scholarships next season and only one Division I forward on the roster.

Re: Xavier recruiting
What is with the fascination of Xaver's 2009 recruiting with Dayton fans. I can understand rubbing in their face a little bit, making a comment or two, but an downright obsession?
Come on, last I checked Xavier is still the team to beat in this league. If I were a UD fan, I would be worrying about shooting more than anything, there's plenty of times last year where UD struggled to get the ball in the basket and had it not been for the great overall athleticism of the team, you guys would've been in trouble. Last I checked, Xavier still has one of the most complete teams in the league on paper. Yes, Dayton is right up there with them, but 1 recruiting class won't do a coach in. Now if Mack & Co. doesn't talent in 2010 then it's time to start somewhat of a panic, but not now. |

Re: Xavier recruiting
Niner, just put them on ignore. It makes life so much simpler. You don't get subjected to their inane ramblings and downright pathetic existance.
Just makes me so happy that Xavier doesn't have the equivalent fans. They are the ones who obsess about Xavier so much that they post things over, and over, over again, simply to try to justify something, anything for dayton in relation to the flagship of this conference. Heck, I bet a couple of them know more about Xavier (or think they do) than they do about their own team. It's the equivalent of a fat chick stalking a hot chick, pure jealousy. Quite frankly it's ruining this board, and it's too bad some Xavier fans waste their time even responding to the idiots.

Re: Xavier recruiting
Occasionally, non-beneficial things happen to D-1 Basketball programs who have coaches that experience so much success that they are coveted by institutions that are in better Conferences and in better position to pay their head coaches more.
That's what happened to Xavier this year. We lost a player who had committed to our program and lost a chance to sign another who had XU at the top of his list (Kyryl N.). Fortunately, we have newly available three players who were unable to play last year who can fill the elegibility slots vacated by our three departed players (Brown, Raymond, and Anderson). Two of them will bolster the weakest area of our team last season (the back court) and the other may be able to swing between the 2 and 3 to help fill the gap created by the departures of Brown and Anderson. Coach Mack has already secured an oral re-commitment from one recruit for 2010 and he and his staff are strongly in the mix for a good number of quality players for both 2010 and 2011. My hope is that the Muskies secure commitments from the players they have targeted and that the thirteen other members of the A-10 are equally successful. If the Conference improves overall, it will benefit all our members from top to bottom and put us into a position to challenge consistently for a top 6 RPI spot among the top D-1 Leagues in the Country. I just fail to understand why some folks take pleasure in the misfortunes of fellow members of their own Conference. That is especially true when those misfortunes may not be significant enough in themselves to cause the team to backtrack in terms of overall quality and achievement. I think I would tend to remain silent on the subject and hope that team performs well enough to prevent the Conference's standing to be negatively affected but that my own team can take advantage of those circumstances to possibly leapfrog them in the standings.

I just want the team I support to be in a stronger conference. I'd prefer it to be a stronger A-10! To me that would mean every member would have at least 2 trips to the NCAA Tourney and 5 winning seasons during each 10-year cycle. It would also be great for every program to seriously challenge for a league title (either regular season or Tourney) at least once during that same period of time. |

The best part of your "knowledge of X" is the crap you make up on your own. For example, your argument which states, "It's the system, and not the coach or the players". What happened to that bit of wisdom you used to spout? My favorite moment of the summer so far is where Snipe wrote some poetry about Miller wanting to stay at X over Arizona, and what it revealed about "what Xavier stands for, and who we are". 24 hours later, Miller was signed on with Arizona. I think that may have broken Snipe for the summer. Next thing you know, he is petitioning for a new A10 board. Now that is good stuff.

As Buick Mack cannot afford to let that happen again, he is aiming a lot lower than Lexus Miller did, and prudently so, as Miller is now a highly-accomplished "big name" head coach at Arizona while Mack is still 5 months away from coaching his first college basketball game. 2010 PF/C Jordan Latham (Atlantic 10 MB thread) 2011 PG Dee Davis (Atlantic 10 MB thread)
