Xavier recruiting
Has Xavier signed anyone for next year? I read that Parrom has reopened reruiting, so adios Xavier. I do not recall them signing any transfers that would sit out next year, or any high school seniors either. Have I missed something?
I realize the coaching change will temporarily mix things up, but come on, recruiting is moving forward and all I hear is silence from Cincinnati.

Re: Xavier recruiting
Relax rusty, Parrom has reopened but X is not out of the picture. X's "freshmen" next year will be Lyons and Walsh unless Parrom or some other recruit emerges. Recruiting for 2010 is still very, very early and I would expect that by the late summer we will have a better handle on who is coming. The opportunity for SF's and PF's to get immediate playing time in 2 years will lure some very good talent. The new asst. coaches have strong connections in both Indy and Baltimore so it may take some time before the names of potential recruits start surfacing. I would also expect some of the decommits to recommit.
BTW, I thought for a minute that Muddy/Prop had hacked your computer and posted this.

Re: Xavier recruiting
It's not like it's a crazy thought to wonder what is going on and have some level of anxiety with the issue. You can say it's senseless Dayton folks acting stupid all you want....but there is something to it. There is no one signed, and the next kid that commits will be the first kid the coach has ever signed.'
Not saying it's panic time, but some mix of anxiety/curiousity is far from unreasonable. |

Re: Xavier recruiting
He's been released... so if Parrom opts to follow Miller in Arizona... I'd say save the scholly for next year and hope Brown doesn't opt to stay in the NBA draft
Personally I think Brown is ready... but returning for one more year will only increase his stock and contract monies being selected higher Xavier has a good nucleus of players returning and with the additions of (Lyons,Crawford) they will still remain the team to beat in the A10... barring any coaching debacles like UMass fans witnessed last year

Re: Xavier recruiting
Rusty, I don't understand your concern. There is a ton of recruiting going on right now, but the 09 window is closing quickly. What would you prefer? X to go out and get someone for that class that is a stopgap measure type of player, or sit on the scholly and hold onto it for '10?
There is no rush for this, because if you rush it, you won't get a caliber of player that we have become accustomed to getting at Xavier. Also, don't exactly count Parrom out of the picture just yet. Sure, X might not get him, but he isn't "gone" either just because his recruitment was reopened.

Re: Xavier recruiting
it looks to me like they will be a little thin up front, particularly if Derrick Brown decides to stay in the draft. Perhaps getting a juco to plug in would help. I don't know, I am not a coach, but that is what I see. Also, if they get an injury to McLean or Brown (assuming he returns) they will be shorthanded.

Re: Xavier recruiting
Fortunately for the Muskies, they are still in the running for his cousin, Kansas Henry.

Re: Xavier recruiting
It's fun to watch the Musketeers get the wind knocked out of them by that Miller sucker-punch. So entertaining to watch him tell the world that he needed to leave to win a championship rather than staying at "Little Ole Xavier". After so many X fans bought into his propaganda, it was a rude awakening for them. PMthor used to echo his quotes about Xavier being "bigtime" like a parrot. Hilarious.

Re: Xavier recruiting
Yesterday I noticed Xavier missing from the A10 recruiting page. I emailed and received a reply within an hour, 10PM last night.

Re: Xavier recruiting
If Mack and company are recruiting any 2009 kids, they're wasting their time. That's done unless your name is John Wall. A JuCo would be a waste because no JuCo will come in and play a bit role. Next year's team is set. They don't need a warm body. I'm sure there are several all league HS players on campus that can walkon and take a beating in practice for the right to play about the same amount of minutes as a kid X signed tomorrow would.
Mack should be, and I'm sure he is, putting all his energy into the 2010 class because he's already way behind the 8 ball on that one. Weatherspoon and Latham committed so early that X had really dialed down the recruiting in that class.

I don't think X is in bad shape at all with the 2010 class. It sounds like there is a good chance that Weatherspoon and Latham both recommit. Even if they don't there are plenty of 2010 prospects out there and Mack will be able to promise a lot of playing time to big men in the 2010 class, which is the top priority. |
