Re: Dayton Recruiting

I would think that immediate playing time was a big factor in Matt Howard's decision to attend Butler.
I think his first season was 2007-08, and he averaged over 24 minutes a game.

In that year Xavier was playing Josh Duncan, Derrick Brown, CJ Anderson, BJ Raymond and Jason Love.

I suspect he would have found it difficult to get the same number of minutes.

Going to Butler helped him have a great 4 year career.

Flyer, you stated that a few pages ago in response to my question, and it has been discussed in the pages since. Not sure where you were trying to go with that last post?

I was noting this informatiom because of the comment below. I don't think there was a lot of playing time available to Howard his first year.

Per Howard's interview with Xavier Rivals, he was promised Doellman's minutes. In retrospect, your argument appears stronger than it probably was at the time. Doellman (27 mpg), Cage (30.7 mpg) and Cole (17.1 mpg) were departing. Duncan (19.3 mpg, 9.3pg) Brown (16.9 mpg 6.3 pg) could be looked on as ahead of Howard, Love (4.0 mpg 1.1 pg) certainly had not impressed, nor had BJ Raymond (13 mpg 4.1pg) who did not play Howard's position to my knowledge, and CJ Anderson was an incoming transfer and question mark. Apparently Howard believed minutes were available as he stated such in the interview.

But facilites and fan support is one of your arguments for Butler over Xavier. What planet do you live on, exactly?

I never stated that anyone would pick Butler over Xavier on any of the listed factors. I merely listed factors that a player might consider in making a decision between 2 schools.

All of which were included in my "narrow" list, or neutral, when comparing Xavier and Dayton.

Re: Dayton Recruiting

Mixing in something actually pertinent to the thread...

@prepbullseye Butler is still very much involved w/ a couple of Chicago area grds in 2013: 6'0 CG Kyle Davis & 6'2 PG Jaylon Tate. 12:38 PM - 23 Aug 12 via web

-------------------------------------------

And something that is about as on-topic as the past three pages...

Hinkle Fieldhouse's 30 million dollar project

Well, it's possible that this quote has been edited right off this forum. I can't seem to find it anymore.

More importantly, has anyone emailed the AD at Dayton to correct this unpalatable truth, and remove bogus, self-serving information from the public domain? What was his answer?

On ESPN's website we find he was actually the #32 rated power forward:

Could somebody with a little time on their hands send an email to the AD at UD about this?

Re: Dayton Recruiting

We should all be outraged. Clearly, the UD athletic department is deliberately "hiding unpalatable truths" and "putting bogus information in the public domain."

Muddy, I trust you will be e-mailing the UD SID immediately. Also, did you ever send your apology email to Tom Eiser for maliciously and falsely accusing him of lying on Xavier's website?

Re: Dayton Recruiting

There seem to be some pretty decent recruiting prospects with ties to Canada. I wonder if UD's Pierre has close ties to any of them?

Re: Dayton Recruiting

2013 Kyle Davis committed to Dayton per Brian Snow of Scout.com

Scout and Rivals 4-star, 2-stars on ESPN.

Scout: http://scouthoops.scout.com/a.z?s=75...=1&nid=5521274
Rivals: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/basketb...e-Davis-126292
ESPN: http://espn.go.com/college-sports/ba...197/kyle-davis

Quote:
“I committed to Dayton today,” said Davis.

He continued, “I committed to Dayton because after sitting down with my family and talking to Coach Nick (Irvin), the decision was based on which school was best for me. They play my style of play and I have the opportunity to come in and do big things because they lost their starting point guard Kevin Dillard.”

According to Davis he feels his style fits in well with what the Flyers are doing on the floor under Miller’s leadership.

“It is actually a very good style for me,” said Davis. “I have seen a few of their games, and they get up and down the court. Coach Archie Miller lets his guards play and it is a great fit.”

For Davis he was out to prove all summer long that he is indeed a point guard and not a shooting guard. He feels he did that and he can prove it while on the floor for the Flyers.

“Over the last year I really stepped my game up a lot and showed people that I am on my way to being a point guard so people will stop saying I am a shooting guard,” said Davis. “I just wanted to show people I am a real point guard.”
