Re: Dayton Recruiting

Huge get for Archie. Not only does he appear to be very talented, but he fills the biggest position of need in the 2013 class. Archie had to get Dillard's replacement, and he got it. The good news for him is, he'll be stepping into the starting spot in 2013 as a freshman along side two older SGs in Sibert and Sanford.

If 2012 freshman Khari Price can be the diamond in the rough people think he can be, the PG spot is in good hands at Dayton.

Great commitment for Archie Miller & Co. !

It is no secret that Kyle Davis was Archie Miller’s top priority in the HS Class of 2013.

Kyle took only one Official Visit (Dayton) before making his decision. Kyle really wants to be a Flyer !

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

4-Star PG Kyle Davis (Rivals Profile)

Eight offers listed:

1. Colorado State
2. Dayton
3. Illinois State
4. Marquette
5. Nebraska
6. Northwestern
7. Tennessee
8. Xavier
---------------------------------------

Morgan Park Could Be a Player in Public League Race Next Season (The Chicago Tribune - May 10, 2012)
As Kyle Davis, who transferred from Hyde Park to Morgan Park at the end of the regular season, blows up on the AAU circuit, it's not hard to envision the Mustangs' entertaining coach, Nick Irvin, holding court in Peoria next March.

I've said in this molecule of cyberspace many times that high school basketball is a guard's game, and assuming Davis doesn't run into issues with the CPS regarding his transfer, Morgan Park is going to have two high-major recruits in its backcourt.

The 6-foot Davis, who has offers from Northwestern, Nebraska, USC, Oklahoma and LSU since the end of the season and is being recruited by Illinois, Xavier, Marquette, Wichita State, and South Carolina, will complement DePaul-bound Billy Garrett well.

Kyle Davis excels in the open court and can guard the quickest of the opposing guards.

Nice Like That - Kyle Davis (June 4, 2012)
Kyle Davis of Morgan Park is a dictator on the court. He can get in the lane when he wants, he can break opposing team’s press, and he has that pull jump shot that college coaches love. Davis has the ability to execute in the half court as well as in the open court. This 2013 prospect’s body control in the paint gives him the edge against taller defenders, and his control of the ball makes him a stellar point guard. Kyle Davis has the game that is definitely nice like that.

Kyle Davis Opening Eyes on Club Circuit (Chicago Sun-Times - June 5, 2012)

Hyde Park's Kyle Davis adds two by scoring past Manley's Darnell Lindsay.

Many Chicago high school basketball players are recognized as elite prospects and high-major players before even their junior season of high school basketball.

But there are still players that slip through the cracks and end up coming on strong later in their careers.

Rising senior guard Kyle Davis might just be the latest example of a late-blooming prospect coming from Chicago. After spending his first three seasons playing varsity at Hyde Park, Davis will spend his senior season at Morgan Park and has been playing at a high-level this spring on the club circuit.

Although Davis was often pegged as a small shooting guard, his play as a point guard this spring with the Mac Irvin Fire has opened the eyes of some national recruiting analysts.

“What’s impressive is how Kyle has developed into more of a point guard,” said Scout.com national recruiting analyst Brian Snow. “Kyle is a kid who has looked to score in the past; now he is showing a better ability to run a team.”

The improvement as a point guard has helped Davis improve his stock, but the 6-foot lefty’s athleticism and defense have continued to stand out. When asked what mattered most to his success on the floor, Davis even acknowledged that his effort on defense took precedence.

“My role is just to play hard defense and make the other team turn the ball over so our guys can get easy baskets,” Davis said. “I want to get up-and-down, trap, press, and play fast.”

Davis mentioned that Nebraska, Oklahoma, Xavier, Marquette, USC, LSU, DePaul, Wichita State, UNLV, Kansas State, and Northwestern have showed interest in him this spring.

Rivals national recruiting analyst Eric Bossi believes he could even potentially join the national rankings with the way he has played.

“Kyle has been one of the better surprises of the spring. I’ve watched him three weekends in a row and he’s grown on me each time,” Bossi said. “I don’t like to speak in anything definite regarding what could happen with rankings. However, I think he’ll make it into our next set of rankings and I think he could potentially be a four-star prospect when it’s all said and done.”

2013 BREAKOUT PERFORMER - KYLE DAVIS (ny2lasports.com - July 19, 2012)
One talented 2013 prospect who has soared is Kyle Davis of Morgan Park.

Standing between 6'-0" and 6'-1" according to most reports, Davis weighs in at close to 165 pounds, solid physical tools for most lead guards. While the height and weight fit the profile of a lot of perimeter generals in the country, the explosive athleticism and quickness of Davis are what catches your attention with the Morgan Park standout as he has explosive leaping ability, solid lateral quickness, and high level speed and quickness that he uses on both ends of the court.

Davis was exceptional throughout the spring as he showcased his physical tools with a number of highlight reel dunks but also showed out his instincts and skill package by creating turnovers and collecting steels defensively, attacking the rim off the bounce, kicking out assists, getting out in transition with success, and knocking down mid-range jumpers and trey balls during scintillating performances in April and May. A late bloomer no doubt, Davis has opened a number of eyes with his play during the 2012 NY2LA Sports Swish 'N Dish, the NIKE EYBL circuit, and a couple other tournaments as well and college coaches have taken notice.

Tennessee, Nebraska, Colorado State, Marquette, Illinois State, Xavier, Northwestern, etc. are just a few of the schools rumored to be interested in Davis and with the July "live" evaluation period on the horizon he stands to see more jump on his recruiting trail with continued high level performances like those he delivered this spring.

Davis plays with the Mac Irvin Fire during the grassroots travel season.

Morgan Park's Davis Looks to Prove He Can Play Point (IlliniHQ.com - July 27, 2012)
Kyle Davis has plenty of college options. The senior-to-be point guard from Morgan Park said he has offers from Dayton, Northern Illinois, Illinois State, Marquette, Xavier, USC, and LSU, among others.

Still, he has a lot to prove as this July period wraps up while playing for the under-17 Mac Irvin Fire – namely, that he can play the point guard position. At the Baylor Youth Elite D-1 tournament in Pleasant Prairie, Wis., two weekends ago, he rotated on and off the ball for the Fire.

When you watch him play, he looks more like a combo guard than a point guard, often because he has an attacking mentality and a want to finish strong when he goes to the hoop. And when asked what his strengths are as a player, it doesn’t take the 6-foot Davis long to respond “getting to the rack and scoring.” But he understands the big picture as well, believing he’ll “probably play point guard” at the next level. So he’s made that a priority as he moves forward. “I’m improving on my jump shot and being a better point guard,” Davis said. “I want to get my teammates going first, then I’ll get myself going.”

Davis intends to make his visits late this summer and in the early fall, though he doesn’t yet have the details worked out. “I’m going to just take my time and wait until the last minute,” Davis said of his timeframe.

Very very pleased with this commitment. PG was the gapping hole in next years team. Archie brings in a 4 star to fill the need.

Indeed. By all accounts, Archie "traded up".

Coach Miller on Jevon Thomas: 'We wish him well' (Doug Harris, DDN - April 10, 2012)

Dayton coach Archie Miller said today he has released point guard recruit Jevon Thomas from his scholarship. The highly touted senior from New York City reportedly will spend another year in prep school and reclassify as a 2013 recruit, but Miller said the Flyers don’t intend to pursue him next year.

"Jevon will not be attending — not enrolling — he will not be attending Dayton. There’s a difference," Miller said. "You can start saying he’s going to prep school. Well, are you still recruiting him? Will he be enrolling? No. He will not be attending the University of Dayton."

Guess Muddy enjoys lying again! Not by all accounts did Archie "trade up"

Page 2 of PG rankings with Javon and no Kyle

Page 3 of PG rankings with Kyle but no Javon

I'm guessing that ESPN just didn't watch Kyle much this summer to give him a rating of 67. Seems to have taken his game up a notch.

Re: Dayton Recruiting

My God, this board has somehow become worse over the summer. XU and Butler fans debating past recruits on a UD Recruiting thread? Someone being an ass demanding a change over 1 spot on a UD website. I have no doubt the Dez Wells thread has an equal amount of assiness. Can we please get some real moderation?

anyhoo, congrats to Kyle on his selection of schools, hope he turns into a PG as solid as UD's last lefty PG, Ramod Marshall.

Re: Dayton Recruiting

Everyone likes to see highly rated recruits commit to the school they follow, but I also think its great to see recruits such as Davis coming into the conference.

With the Davis verbal I wonder if Miller still pursues Ridenour out of the Cleveland area.

PG was an obvious need for UD next year. I would also think that they are trying to bring in someone that can play center. I understand that they are looking hard at a Canadian recruit now playing at a prep school in New England, and another recruit playing in upstate NY. Anyone hearing the names of any other targeted recruits other then those mentioned on Rivals/Scout?
