Re: Dayton Recruiting
I think Payne gets off on running people around. No one has any idea what he is going to do, and if anyone says that they do, they are full of it.
I do doubt he ends up in the A10 though.

![]() Part of being a good reporter is knowing when someone is pulling your leg. Hopefully, Brian Snow has learned something about that this week. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote:
It is worth noting that none of the other reporters who heard Payne's "July 8th favorite schools list" chose to publish it, and for good reason. For the past year-and-a-half, Payne has consistently mentioned Dayton every time he has been asked about his "favorite schools" list - a fact that Brian Snow was well aware of - and Snow should have been very suspicious when Payne left Dayton off his "July 8th favorite schools list". Everyone else was. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't know where Adreian Payne will be playing his college basketball, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprized if it was Dayton. Payne has kept his cards very close to his chest during his recruitment, but he revealed a lot more than he had previously in this July 7th article: Byrd Battling Injury at LeBron James Academy (Jim Comparoni - Rivals / SpartanMag.com - July 7, 2009) And I would not be quick to dismiss what Rivals.com national recruiting analyst Jerry Meyer had to say: Analyst sings praises of UD recruit, says Payne has work to do (Doug Harris, DDN - June 24, 2009) Excerpt: And while he’s still coveted by the premier programs, Meyer said: “I don’t know him real well, but I hear things. And I know Dayton has a good shot at him because I don’t necessarily think he’s looking to go to the biggest school or the highest-ranked school.” --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have followed Adreian Payne's recruitment in much greater detail than most of you, so here is my humble but informed opinion: (1) Payne isn't going to a MAC school, so Akron is out. (2) Payne has said repeatedly that his grandmother is the most important person in his life and that she wants him to stay near home so that she can attend his games, so Arizona is out. (3) Payne has said that Ohio State has stopped recruiting him, so the Buckeyes are apparently out. (4) Payne has taken unofficial visits to Michigan State and Kentucky, and both are making very strong recruiting efforts for his services. (Yesterday, Brian Gregory and Tom Izzo sat next to each other while watching Adreian Payne play in the LeBron James’ King City Classic in Cleveland.) If Payne commits to a BCS-conference school, I believe that it will be either Michigan State or Kentucky. (5) Xavier is out. Payne has regularly been attending the Flyers' home games for the past two seasons and is always very welcome in their locker room after the games. Payne frequently practices with the Flyers in open-gym sessions at UD and they all know each other quite well. Adreian Payne is Chris Wright's cousin and a close friend of AAU teammate Juwan Staten. Payne knows Juwan's father Bill Staten very well (“I’m probably around Adreian more than any other adult, other than his family and maybe his coach"). Adreian Payne is not going to commit to Dayton's # 1 rival, so Buick Mack is wasting his time if he is still recruiting Payne. Bottom line: my best guess is that in September, Adreian Payne will commit to Dayton over Michigan State and Kentucky. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Beltway Well Represented in Cleveland (Reggie Rankin, ESPN / Scouts Inc. - July 9, 2009) Extra long and athletic forward Adreian Payne (Dayton, Ohio/Jefferson) displayed his underrated skill-set by hitting midrange jumpers and a 3 as he competed for rebounds with rising junior sensation Rakeem Christmas (Philadelphia/North Catholic) in a game that had multiple possessions played above the rim. The King City Classic had exciting plays in every game, as these players displayed talent, skill and elite athletic ability. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UD Target Payne Starts Strong at LeBron Classic (Doug Harris, DDN - July 10, 2009) UD recruiting target Adreian Payne has dropped 12 spots to No. 20 in the most recent Rivals.com top-100 list, but he’s helping himself with a strong showing at the LeBron James’ King City Classic this week in northeast Ohio. Jerry Meyer, a recruiting analyst for Rivals, gave the 6-foot-10 center from Jefferson High School a glowing review on the website Thursday: “Adreian Payne put together one of the best performances we have seen him have in his opening game of the event where he got the best of Rakeem Christmas (of Philadelphia). Payne did most everything you would want out of a big man from blocking shots, rebounding in traffic, scoring in the post and hitting open jumpers. “If Payne demonstrates the potential to sustain this type of effort, he will slide up the rankings from his present No. 20 spot.” --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote:

Re: Dayton Recruiting
De nile isn't just a river in Egypt. I guess if he doesn't commit to the cryers the egg will be on your face. BTW, Snow's job is to report on recruiting. If AP gives him the time to talk to him then why shouldn't Snow report what AP says? You act as if Snow is making this stuff up. You try to discredit him but when Meyer says something favorable about the cryers chances then he must be speaking the gospel truth.
BTW, keep counting X out. Seems every time that you do they come back and bite you in the @ss. Here is my humble and informed opinion: I don't think AP knows where he is going to go but it ain't gonna be UD because he wants to play for a winner and have a chance to get to the NBA.

Re: Dayton Recruiting
Here's a picture for you, Muddy.
![]() Brian Snow wasn't the only reporter to print the list of schools that Payne gave him. Payne gave that list to Bucknuts.com writers also, and they too posted that information in an article on their site. It was a premium article, just like Snow's. So once again, you're wrong. What is Snow supposed to do? Just not print the information that was given to him directly from Payne? The one time he doesn't print the information would the be the one time Payne is actually telling him the truth. Part of being a good reporter is telling when someone is pulling your leg? Are you serious? That's stupid. Snow is reporting the information he was given. If Payne wants to play games, that's fine. I find it funny and ironic that you posted a picture of a guy with egg on his face. That should be your avatar because you always have egg on your face. You have a habit of trying to erase the evidence though. |

Re: Dayton Recruiting
There is no way Payne could possibly go to XU because he is also being recruited by UD? That is pretty flawed logic. Rivals go up against each other all of the time for recruits, that doesn't automatically eliminate one school from contention. And I don't know why you seem to think Dayton has such a strong shot. He has seen absolutely everything he possibly could at UD and he still hasn't committed. Instead he really wants to look outside of Ohio and take a closer look at those schools. Dayton is probably in the mix but I wouldn't count on them. If he was so interested in playing with Staten and Chris Wright and hanging out with grandma all of the time he would have committed already. The chances he stays in the A-10 are pretty slim. And for a recruit who is just a luxury and not a "must have" you spend a lot of time following the recruitment and finding articles about Adreian Payne to explain why Dayton has a decent chance of getting him and coming up with theories why Xavier has 0 chance.

Re: Dayton Recruiting
I've never read about a kid this unpredictable. There is no precedent. You'd be a fool to wager any money on where he chooses to go, be it kentucky or UD. I'd love to have him, but who knows where he'll end up.

Re: Dayton Recruiting
West Virginia is out.
(1) The Flyers kicked the Mountaineers' butts in the NCAA Tournament. (2) The Mountaineers' coach is as sleazy as they come. (3) The Morgantown Multiplex Cinema shows "Deliverance" every Saturday night. The locals show up in droves and boo Burt Reynolds.

It's kinda like excuses for Operation Freedom saying there's WMD's in Iraq, not finding any, then saying they were part of 911 because the WMD's weren't there, then it was about liberating the Iraquis form a dictator because no 911 conspirators were from Iraq. Next thing you know there wil be an announcement about the resumption of the game underneath a 'Mission Accomplished' banner....
