Giannini continues to roll - Sam Mills signs with La Salle

What a job. La Salle will continue to be very solid for a long time.

I usually don't jump into LaSalle threads but I have a couple of questions. One, why is he unranked by Rivals but a 4 star recruit by Scout? Don't know if I've ever seen that before! Second, in all the list of schools that offered (and there are some big ones) where did LaSalle fall into this process and how did you guys manage to snag him? Looks like a good pickup, at least from Scout's persepective.

He was offered by Georgia Tech, Marshall, Northwestern, Delaware, Auburn, in addition to La Salle.

Congrats to Lasalle and Giannini. Conference needs to stay strong. Lasalle may be overtaking Saint Joseph's in Philly as we watch (or may have already done so). Who'd a thunk that five years ago?

Not to nitpick the press release but I believe UNC has two top 20 guards signed for next year, and no I'm not including the #1 guy who just signed out of Iowa, I mean the PG and SG.

I think they must be point guards to be in the top 35 with Duke and La Salle.

Mills will play more shooting guard than point but you can never have enough ball handlers.

I thought his dad was a career military man, the famous General Mills.

Sam Mills was a New Orleans Saint and it's a shame the way a newer franchise like Carolina just claimed him as its own. He was a great man and defied the odds to become a Pro Bowl caliber linebacker.

Oh, and nice signing for LaSalle. Why didn't Giannini bring a higher caliber of player into Maine? Did he make a Dr. Faustus-like deal upon arriving at LaSalle?

Dr. Faustus had a PhD, too, you know...

Re: Giannini continues to roll - Sam Mills signs with La Salle

Awesome addition.

Somehow, Coach has been able to recruit some great talent. I think it mostly has to do with the fact that these guys will be playing IMMEDIATELY. Refer to Aaric Murray, as an example. Next season, we will lose two guards and two forwards... These kids will be getting some serious playing time as freshman.

This is why I anticipate Murray being a fabulous player, because of the ability for him to play immediately.

No it isn't, not taking away from Sam's terrific years as a Saint, but he when he signed here (our first expansion year) he was easily one of the most popular players and THE team leader. Yea, Sam didn't spend as long in Carolina as a player as other destinations, but I really doubt you could've found more Sam Mills jerseys in NO. Immediately after retirement, Sam spent 6 years as an assistant coach before becoming ill.

His #51 is still the only number retired by the Panthers to date.
