Did You Go to the School You Support?
Just a question to all the posters...did you attend/graduate from the school you support here? If not, what is your affiliation or reason for fandom?
I did my undergrad at a D-III school and until I got to Bonas for grad school, the only basketball games I had been to were some HS girls playoff games (the star of that team later went to Xavier and briefly the WNBA) so I wasn't well versed. Even in the depths of the Solomon teams, I still caught the spirit of the Bonnies and have been a season ticket holder for 7 years now. Apologies if this has been discussed before, I was just curious.

Re: Did You Go to the School You Support?
No I did not. I have lived in Nevada my entire life and am currently going to school at the University of Nevada-Reno.... However, I would say I am easily more of a fan of Temple than I am of my current university (Not to say I don't love the Wolf pack or don't go to games and cheer them on)
Personally I have been a fan of Temple basketball since I was 4-5 years old mostly because of John Chaney but because I also had a knack for picking sports teams with a underdog spirit (Growing up in Nevada meant I was a free agent fan wise) and fell in love with Temple. Would have loved to attend school but felt I needed to stay locally but it has always been my dream to fly out and attend games and I will someday. Luckily Nevada and Temple have never played because it would be awkward but there is no doubt in my mind I would be wearing Temple's colors.

Re: Did You Go to the School You Support?
I currently attend SBU as a sophomore and when looking at schools, a school with D1 basketball was certainly a big plus to going there. I had always been a fan of Bonaventure because the first NCAA tournament game that I can remember watching was the Bonnies Kentucky 2OT game in the first round of the NCAAs in 2001. I remember my dad cheering hard for the Bonnies because he wanted to see an upset and every since then I have been very drawn to the NCAA tournament and have thought it was the best tournament in all of sports. Obviously Bonaventure seemed like a pretty good fit after that and I go to every single gamee that I am on campus for and when they are playing games in Buffalo i do my best to get there for them also.

Yes. I had the privilege of enjoying four great years at UD in the 1970's and earned a University of Dayton diploma. I'm a third-generation Flyer and third-generation UD basketball fan who started attending Dayton Flyers games during the 1965-66 season.

Re: Did You Go to the School You Support?
I am an alumnus of a D-3 school (Worcester Polythechnic Institute). My association with URI goes back to 1978 in my Jr HS days when I started to watch (tv) and attend Rhody games with family. I am a native Rhode Islander that once lived near the school and I have several family members that are URI alumni and one family member that played a prominent position for a major Ram sport, was later on the coaching staff, and is a URI Athletics HOF member.
I am currently a resident of Massachusetts but live right on the RI border so it is still easy for me to follow Rhody hoops. |

Re: Did You Go to the School You Support?
I did my undergraduate and graduate work at schools in New England. My connection to Xavier is that I have been on their faculty since 1984. In addition, my son and daughter-in-law are both Xavier graduates.

Re: Did You Go to the School You Support?
I did not attend UD. Became a fan during the 98-99 season and had loosely followed them for a couple of years prior to that. My first ever UD game was the upset win in Cincy over UK.

Re: Did You Go to the School You Support?
Yes, I attended X and graduated in 2009. Have had season tickets (well, there techically my dad's seats) since 1995 and have attended probably 99% of their home games at the Gardens and Cintas Center..
I will also have a connection to Dayton next summer. I am getting married to a Flyer grad in July (What was I thinking???)

Re: Did You Go to the School You Support?
I'm a Minuteman. I don't think I could be passionate fan of a university I didn't go to, unless I lived in a place without any professional teams. Especially not a non-BCS university, since it's such a pain to find coverage of them.

Re: Did You Go to the School You Support?
Yes...a long time ago.
Had one daughter go to X, another to UR. Causes some angst...but X comes out on top! (UR does have a spectacular campus and is a great school). Grandson will be 4th generation Muskie...class of '33.

Re: Did You Go to the School You Support?
I got a masters degree from Xavier many years ago. When I was there, the basketball program was awful and the facility equally as bad.
Anyone remember the coach, Tay Baker?

Re: Did You Go to the School You Support?
Nope.
Grew up in the South Dayton 'burbs. My grandfather went to UD and even played on the freshmen team back in the 50s. I attended UD games while still in the womb in the 84-85 season, and have been to games every season since. Lifelong love of Flyer hoops was confirmed in the Oliver Purnell basketball camps as a kid. I treated college, and still believe this, as a purely business decision. But I don't need a piece of paper to tell me I have a deep connection to UD hoops.
