6 conference games and 1 out of conference game on tap for Saturday in the A-10. To start us off a Big 5 game between surprise A-10 leader La Salle and St. Joes played at the historic Palestra in almost a coin-flip game. Xavier travels as 5 point underdogs as they try to get a major road victory heading out of conference to face the Memphis Tigers. Charlotte is a 2.5 point favorite as they travel to Fordham in a big game in determining who will qualify for the A-10 tournament. Temple goes on the road and are 8.5 point favorites as they take on the suddenly resurgent Rhode Island Rams at 2 pm on ESPN2. Dayton looks to stop the 3 game conference losing streak as they face a huge road test against St. Louis at 5 pm on FCS channel. UMass is a slight 1 point favorite hoping to bounce back from a tough overtime loss to Rhode Island as they travel to George Washington at 7 pm and finally Duquesne is a 6.5 point favorite as they welcome in the Richmond Spiders at 7 pm on ESPNU.

Re: 2/4 A-10 Games
STL.. HUGE Faves wow
SJU and La Salle wow... well here you go... a slugfest to get back into NCAA talk.. Now even though it is at a neutral location, this is a home game for St Joes and a road game for La Salle in the eyes of the NCAA.. Is that correct?
Xavier to solidify its position in the tourney field
Fordham and Charlotte battling to make it in the field
The Dukes and the Spiders battling out in a NIT berth elimination game.. One team gets a bump up in RPI while the other one might have too much to climb in a short period of time

Yes that's correct, it will be viewed as a home game for St. Joes. St. Joes will also get more tickets by something like a 65/35 split.

Lovin the Memphis vibe. It would be a huge win for the Muskies. I like our chances.

The game is televised on The Comcast Network in Philly area.
This is a game where the Explorers need to show they are for real, for real. I expect them to keep the game at a fast pace and not let the Hawks get comfortable in their offensive sets. Look for Mills to have a solid game. You may see the Explorers with 3 guard sets for stretches of the game and other times a rare 5 guard set to really speed up the game. The Explorers are 2-1 at the Palestra this year and 1-1 in Big 5 games (Beating Penn and losing to Villanova in OT). The second Temple game counts toward the Big 5 standings.

Re: 2/4 A-10 Games
Both the @ La Salle game and the @ Saint Joes game count toward the Big 5 standings for Temple so it's going to be a fun month for big 5 basketball. Look forward to this matchup because St. Joes is essentially playing to keep their long shot hopes for an NCAA bid and La Salle is hoping to get into the discussion. I expect a game that comes down to the final minute.

Not that I know of. They've come close before, but never an official sell out I believe. Arena is supposed to hold around 10,600, but they're expecting around 11,000.
Edit: Actually after a bit of research, they did sell out against Dayton in 2009 when Dayton was ranked #25. But this is expected to be the largest turn-out ever.

Re: 2/4 A-10 Games
ESPN must love televising an 18 loss URI team today (sarcasm intended).

Re: 2/4 A-10 Games
I am not feeling particularly confident in today's Muskie game vs Memphis. There is a mismatch on the perimeter with their stud 6'6" guard matching up against either 6' Holloway or 6'1" Lyons and they are somewhat athletic (if not strong) inside where Frease is the antithesis of "athletic" (and his hands are not strong in "the finish")
The other problems I see for XU is the fact that the Muskies have not really put together 2 solid halves of basketball except for the 23-point blowout of UC, their free throw shooting has largely been abominable, they are extremely inconsistent in both their inside-out and dribble penetration offensive schemes, they've been terribly slow in transition defense, and their ball screen switches can be timed using a calendar.
But this is not quite a Memphis Tigers team comparable to what the BB nation has become accustomed (i.e. Top 5 or 10 in the rankings). So stranger things could happen than a Xavier win today.

I just want the team I support to be in a stronger conference. I'd prefer it to be a stronger A-10! To me that would mean every member would have at least 2 trips to the NCAA Tourney and 5 winning seasons during each 10-year cycle. It would also be great for every program to seriously challenge for a league title (either regular season or Tourney) at least once during that same period of time.

St. Joe's likes to run too so that is an interesting strategy...Seems like this is going to be a defense optional game haha...

Well, bottom line if they get an exciting game that keeps viewers I guess it doesn't matter too much to espn. A few weeks ago everyone would expect a massacre here, but at least now espn can play up the "upset-minded" Rams going into the game today.

Re: 2/4 A-10 Games
St Joe's would not be able to defend a 3 or 4 guard offense. LaSalle has to miss 3's for us to win.
