1. Isaiah Canaan, Murray State

The Racers senior has posted a double-figure scoring average in each of his three seasons. In 2011-12, he poured in 19 points a contest for a squad that went 31-2. Even more impressive is that Canaan shot 45.6 percent from beyond the arc while ranking first in the Ohio Valley Conference with 98 made 3-pointers. A preseason All-American, Canaan is generously listed at 6-foot-1, but he’s likely an inch or two shorter. He makes up for his lack of height with upper-body strength that makes him deadly on NBA-range 3-pointers and hard to stop when he’s slashing to the basket.


3. Pierre Jackson, Baylor

Perry Jones III, Quincy Acy and Quincy Miller were all selected in the NBA draft. But the Bears never would’ve won a school-record 30 games and reached the Elite Eight if not for Jackson, who led Baylor in points (13.8) and assists (5.9) while shooting 82.2 percent from the foul stripe. There aren’t many guards in America as quick as Jackson, who brought a swagger and toughness to a squad that had long been considered soft. The Big 12’s preseason player of the year, Jackson must step up his leadership even more as the Bears attempt to incorporate freshmen such as Isaiah Austin and Rico Gathers into the rotation.

Today's game against Walsh might be a different story for our bigs. Kenny Kornkowski dropped a 30-burger on us last year. It will be interesting to see how Robinson and Scott handle him.

Josh Benson with 22 points and 12 rebounds (11-15 FGs).

Kevin Dillard with 11 points and 9 assists.

Jalen Robinson had 13 points and Vee Sanford had 12 points.

Excellent come-from-behind win for the Flyers, who shot 72 % from the field in the second half.

I like what Sanford brings. Upgrade over Williams. Very athletic and much longer then PW. He has a nice in the lane fade away and in the open court is very very quick. Benson is feeling no ill effects. Hes so quick and crafty on the block for a guy almost 6-10.

I briefly considered taking into account the feelings of St. Bonaventure fans, but then I thought, "Wait, I'm on the internet. Who here is taking the feelings of anyone into account?"

Then on deeper reflection, I realized why I actually rather like the Bonnies nickname. One, it's not just the school with "men" on the end. It's the diminutive form, which is a superior way to go. Also, it's gender neutral. What do the the female teams of Walsh do? The Walshwomen? Sounds a lot like washwomen to me, which seems extremely disparaging. I propose they be called the "Lady Walshmen". Finally, Bonnies sounds good. Walshmen, not so much. It sounds like someone got confused when trying to say Welshmen.

Advantage: St. Bonaventure Bonnies.

Another good showing for the good guys I thought.

Bigs looked great again in this one. Benson, Robinson and Scott are all playing well on offense and defense.

Derenbecker was again invisible, going 0-3 from 3. On the other hand, in his first action, Dyshawn Pierre looked solid. He was comfortable, shot 2-3 including a 3 pointer, showed athleticism and is a good passer. I like what I saw from him. Derenbecker better make some shots in a hurry if he wants to keep his spot in the rotation.

When Dillard is aggressive, he is phenomenal. The trouble is lighting a fire under him all the time. The more aggressive he and Vee Sanford are, the better. Sanford had another solid performance today. He is only going to get more comfortable.
