Re: 2012-2013 Dayton Flyers
This from CollegeChalkTalk:
"But how about Vee Sanford of Dayton? Sanford averaged just 2.4 points two years ago at Georgetown and is now the Flyers’ second leading scorer (12.7) behind Kevin Dillard. Sanford has been a 90% free throw shooter and has paired with Dillard to give Archie Miller’s club two potent scoring guards. Ranked as a top 30 guard in high school, Sanford’s ball handling abilities allow UD to run out a backcourt of two true point guards who can both score and distribute the ball. Thus far, it has paid dividends. Dayton is fourth in the league in both assists per game and three point shooting… and second in field goal percentage." I really wish I could pull a Xavierhoops and find the Temple fan that stated more then once that Sanford was not even an A10 caliber player. http://collegechalktalk.com/?p=4864 |

Re: 2012-2013 Dayton Flyers
May be a little early since he hasn't actually played A10 teams yet, but he is off to a great start. I think he benefits as much as anyone from having Dillard as a running mate. That can only help him continue to put up some good numbers.

Re: 2012-2013 Dayton Flyers
Remember when Kevin Dillard wanted to come to X but we didn't have the room? Would be nice to have him on this young, and tough-to-watch X team.

Re: 2012-2013 Dayton Flyers
I was concerned with all of the new pieces going into the year, but Vee Sanford has won me over completely. He is very well-rounded and talented offensively. And I think he has the ability our best defender as well. I am most pleased with his ability to shoot from the perimeter, because I thought we would need that on this squad. But he is at his best posting up other guards and hitting hanging 10ft jumpers on fade away moves. He is also hitting a super % at the free throw line. With him and Dillard on the floor at the end of a game with a small lead, who are you going to foul (Sanford #3 in the league and Dillard is #5 in free throw %)? How are you going to deny both the ball?
I think he can be a bigger scorer for us right now. I want him to shoot more. Pierre is another guy who has exceeded my expectations. I love that he can also shoot the 3 and is very good driving to the basket. This recruiting class was full of nice suprises for me.

Re: 2012-2013 Dayton Flyers
Ya, fair statement but true for a lot players on a lot of teams. A few Mizzou players benefit from playing with Pressey. Will be interesting to see how Vee morphs next year into the role where this will really be HIS (and Oliver's) team.

Re: 2012-2013 Dayton Flyers
Well, in all fairness, at the time, X already had two terribly lucky tranin sfers sitting there in Crawford (who left that same year I believe) and Holloway who should have been at IU. Plus, you also had Lyons who was lucky enough to sit out his first year, giving you a lucky 5th year with him, which turned out to be an unlucky year for you at AZ. You're unluck, was our luck.

Re: 2012-2013 Dayton Flyers
Holloway didn't have to sit out, did he 75? Because he never enrolled at IU.
Thats a really good point, Waymire. X could have made room for KD, and they should have. Not only this year, but think of having all three of those guards last year? They would have been awesome. Of all the "critiques" UD fans like to loft at Chris Mack, that might have been his biggest recruiting mistake so far (he was the coach at this point, right?). Thank goodness he made it. |

Re: 2012-2013 Dayton Flyers
Yes, Kevin Waymire, he wanted to go to Xavier instead of UD. He isn't the first and he won't be the last. I'm sure there are guys on your team that wanted to go to OSU or IU. Its reality.
But, looking at their roster the year Dillard would have sat out, it appears XU decided they were better off with Jordan Latham, Griffin McKenzie, and Jay Canty as freshman. They also had two guys sitting out - Justin Martin and Travis Taylor. So, you are right that X "didn't have room for him." But they should have made room, and that was a mistake by them. |

Re: 2012-2013 Dayton Flyers
Yep. We sure are lucky!
I must admit I was not aware of Dillard wanting to come to X and us not having room (but given rosters and years that makes sense). How come he didn't go to Dayton first?

Re: 2012-2013 Dayton Flyers
Kevin Dillard was never quoted by any credible source as saying that he wanted to transfer to Xavier. This was an unsubstantiated rumor started by a Xavier fan after Dillard announced his transfer to Dayton, which then became 'fact' (according to certain Xavier fans), who repeated it time after time on various MBs. Don't believe everything you read on a basketball MB, especially if there is not a link to a credible source. Back to topic ==> 2012-2013 Dayton Flyers --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In some years, the Dayton Flyers have had some good luck in their non-conference games. This year is not one of them. Weber State 62, Dayton 61 (ESPN Box Score - November 28, 2012) Illinois State 74, Dayton 73 (ESPN Box Score - December 19, 2012) Southern California 63, Dayton 61, OT (ESPN Box Score - December 30, 2012)

I wonder if Wikipedia is a reliable source?
