Re: Help Wanted -- Duquesne

The Pittsburgh media columnists are a joke. They have no right to comment on the situation when they don't even go to games or know who is on the team.

I hope Pepper is as good as advertised.
It is splitting hairs, but that's why message boards were invented.

Dayton brings in a top 150 recruit in PG Jevon Thomas, two solid 3 star big men formally committed to WVU and Cincy, a former 3 star SG transfer from Georgetown, and Matt Derenbecker, from LSU, who was #77 on rivals in 2010.

Both comparable classes, but all things largely equal, 5 good players beats 4 in class rankings. We're not judging teams, just additions. And Dayton will add one more in all likelihood. Possibly two if the right players want to commit.

The real point is, the article was a lazy, sloppy hack job. May have raised some good points with AD and support issues, I have no insight into the program, but they used pure crap to back it up.

Very nice, I wasn't aware of Derenbecker or the GTown Xfer. Not that it matters much, but which recruiting service are you basing those grades on? I'm assuming Rivals. It seems strange that Jevon Thomas is rated much higher on Rivals than he is by ESPN or Scout. He looks like he's going to be a good player, just an observation. That said, Daniel Dingle is a 4 star recruit on Scout and has a rating of 91 by ESPN. Goes to show you how difficult it can be to get a good read on a recruit coming out of high school and how convoluted the grading process can be. Temple is still in the mix for Amile Jefferson and Savon Goodman for 2012. If Temple were to land Amile Jefferson, he'd be the best recruit in the conference and one of the biggest recruits in Temple's history. Very unlikely that they pick him up though. Savon Goodman would be an excellent addition and is much more likely to don Cherry and White. He'd arguably be the best player in our upcoming class.

Not sure why they wouldn't at least call the guy. Maybe they have other things going on that are more important... Don't screw this up Amodio...

Heard Tulsa may be interested in Antigua. Not sure he'd go to Oklahoma, though. Duquesne would be a perfect landing spot for him considering he played for Pitt and spent an additonal five years there as an assistant.

Do you think Tulsa is a better program? They did pretty well in C-USA last year.

True, Tulsa did pretty well last season but not well enough. Doug Wojcik's teams won consistently year in and year out, but they never made the NCAA tournament in the seven years he was there and fan interest in the team started to fade.

Anyway, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that Antigua would be interested in the Duquesne job "if the deal was right." Unfortunately, Duquesne has not contacted Antigua, yet. Perhaps your AD wants someone with head coaching experience (Dino Gaudio?).

I don't know how many times I've said it before, so I'll say it once again...

From Shabazz Muhammad's mouth to God's ears.

Recent history points to Tulsa being a much better program. Since Duquense's last NCAA appearance in 1977, Tulsa has gone to 13 NCAA Tournaments, won 11 NCAA games, had two Sweet-16's, and one Elite-8. The Golden Hurricane also have six NIT appearances during this span and won the NIT twice (1981 & 2001). Tulsa also has one CBI appearance winning the tourney in 2008.

I would say that Tulsa has had a very impressive post season record in the last 30 odd years. Very few A-10 programs have done better in that time. Tulsa also plays all its games at its on campus Donald W. Reynolds Center, an 8,355-seat multi-purpose arena opened in 1998. The school has also produced a lot of coaches that have gone on to bigger careers including: Nolan Richardson, Tubby Smith, Bill Self, and Buzz Peterson.

I've heard Dino Gaudio may be the leader for this job.

I've heard the same. Multiple folks at Bona's have insisted he'd get this job when it opened. Apparently, there is a connection between Guadio and the Dukes' AD.

Re: Help Wanted -- Duquesne

There is a suicide watch that will go into effect on the Dukes boards if this happens. Dino has the "good recruiter, awful bench coach" label from his time at Wake. He seems to get talent, but he does poorly late in the season, and tends to fail in the postseason, ie; against good coaches. Sounds like Nee redux.

Re: Help Wanted -- Duquesne

This would be an awful hire. There are many candidates who are a better fit IMO.

Im leaning towards Orlando Antigua but Brett Reed, Anthony Evans, Jimmy Pastos and Jeff Boals would also be good hires IMO.

Amodio is going to looks dirty after this if he hires his friend from the hamptons, Gaudio. It just sounds like an inside job: Amodio hires Gaudio after 5 years of courting. No offence to the Italians out there.
