How about the winningest program in NCAA history, have they passed them too?

Haha...maybe in a half a century or so...

From The New York Times (4/5/09):

The team with the most victories in college baseball history practiced energetically Thursday.

This scene did not occur in California, Florida or Texas, places where college baseball is in the spotlight. It occurred on a cool afternoon in the Bronx, six subway stops away from Yankee Stadium. It happened at Fordham University, the humble home of the team that surprisingly has the most wins of any N.C.A.A. Division I baseball program.

And it is not close. Fordham has 4,010 wins; Texas is second with 3,117. Of course, Fordham had a huge head start since it began playing baseball 150 years ago, which was 36 seasons before Texas did and more than half a century before many other teams. Still, Fordham proudly relishes having more victories than elite programs like Stanford and Miami.

Before he became the voice of the Dodgers, Vin Scully was an outfielder for Fordham.

That's because California teams actually play someone OOC.

Long Beach State is going to miss the NCAA Tournament. They would foul up the teams on the East Coast/South.

No, it is because of longevity, as the article states. The closest California team is Santa Clara and even if they had never lost a college baseball game, they would be behind Fordham's total number of victories. That's why I brought it up in jest, and I presume why ramMan laughed in reply to my post. We recognize it's because of longevity, but the numbers don't back up your claim.

Oh, I know it's because of longevity.

I'm just bitter about the NCAA bracket. It's rediculous the teams that get in and the teams that don't. Louisville over Gonzaga or Long Beach State? Or Cal?

Lunacy. The snubs of the west coast would trounce most the teams in the east.

Field Set for 2012 A-10 Baseball Championship (Atlantic 10 - May 19, 2012)

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – After capturing a share of its first regular season title, Saint Louis is the top seed for the 2012 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championship, to be held May 23-26 at Fordham’s Houlihan Park in Bronx, N.Y.

The Saint Louis Billikens and Dayton Flyers finished atop the league standings with identical 17-7 A-10 records.

However, by virtue of the Conference tie-breaking procedures, SLU is seeded first and UD is seeded second, as SLU claimed the regular season series between the two teams, 2-1. Both teams will receive a first-round bye and begin play on Thursday, May 24.

Saint Louis (40-16/17-7), which won a program-record 40 games this season, seeks its third A-10 crown (2006, 2010) and enters this week’s Championship boasting a .282 team batting average, while the Billiken pitching staff has registered an Atlantic 10-best 3.10 ERA.

The regular season title is the second for Dayton (28-28/17-7), as the Flyers earned their first in 2009. Head coach Tony Vittorio’s squad, which is seeking its first Championship crown, owns a league-best .295 average at the plate, paced by senior Brian Blasik, who leads the conference in hits (82), stolen bases (34-37) and total bases (129). He also ranks third in the A-10 with his .347 batting average.

Rounding out the six-team field is third-seeded Rhode Island (32-23-1/16-8), followed by fourth-seeded Massachusetts (22-20/14-10), fifth-seeded Richmond (27-24/14-10), and sixth-seeded Saint Joseph’s (23-30/13-10).

Parker, Blasik Garner All-America Honors (Atlantic 10 - May 31, 2012)

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Saint Louis senior reliever Travis Parker and Dayton senior shortstop Brian Blasik garnered Louisville Slugger NCAA Division I All-America honors, as announced today by Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

Parker was named to the Second Team, while Blasik was selected to the Third Team.

Parker is one of two relief pitchers on the second team, after one was chosen for the first team. He did not allow an earned run all season, posting a 3-1 ledger in a school-record 27 appearances. Parker recorded a school-record 12 saves and struck out 32 batters. He owns the school record with 22 career saves and ends his career with a 1.61 ERA in 50 appearances.

This season, Parker helped SLU set the school record in wins as the Billikens went 41-18. SLU also claimed a share of the Atlantic 10 Conference regular-season title for the first time in school history.

Parker becomes Saint Louis baseball's first All-American since Mike Barger claimed third-team honors in 1993. John Jones and John Marcum earned All-America status in 1959 and 1965, respectively.

Blasik, the only three-time First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection in UD baseball history, enters the NCAA tournament batting .344, with 56 runs scored, 46 RBI and a school-record 35 stolen bases. He also holds the Flyer career record for stolen bases (64). He is the first Flyer to earn All-America honors.

The Valley View High School and Dayton Classics product led Dayton in batting average (.344), hits (84), doubles (21) and triples (3), in addition to stolen bases. He had 25 multi-hit games, including nine with three hits. He is also top five in career average, hits, and doubles.

UD earned its first berth in the NCAA tournament by winning the A-10 championship last Saturday.

The Flyers will take on the number eight team in the nation, Texas A&M, in College Station, Texas on Friday, June 1st.

The game will be televised on ESPN3.com. First pitch is at 7:35 p.m. ET.

Disappointing, but not surprizing:

UD Bats Quiet Against Aggies (Ryan Metz, DDN - Saturday June 2, 2012)

A&M starter Wacha shows why major league teams showing interest.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Michael Wacha will likely get a call in the first round from a major league team during Monday’s amateur draft. The Texas A&M right-hander is projected to be selected in the middle of the first round, and he showed why on Friday night.

Stifled by Wacha for 7 1/3 innings, Dayton was unable to pick up a two-out hit and lost 4-1 to the host Aggies in front of 4,585 in the first round of the NCAA baseball tournament.

Wacha departed after allowing no runs on five hits with three walks and nine strikeouts.

The No. 4 seed Flyers (31-29) will face No. 2 seed TCU (36-20) at 1:35 p.m. today. The top-seeded Aggies (43-16) play No. 3 seed Mississippi (36-24) tonight.

Hey, at least you made Sports Center's top 10 when you scored your first NCAA tournament run ever when your outfielder slid head first into home and cut his head up pretty good on the catcher's shinguard.

Re: Spring Sports

Shoulda went for the two-point conversion to cut it to 14.

I have always thought that A-10 champs and other 4 seeds from the north central and northeast should toss their #3 in game one, and go for the win in game two. You throw your ace vs their ace and you're gonna lose. Then you're left with a #2 vs a #2 on a team that's still better and you're 0-2.

Throw your #3 in game one and you lose (no change), but then you got your best two guys against a two/three seed and you have a chance in that game, and if you win, it's your #2 vs a #3 in a second elimination games.

Would you rather go 2&Q or 1-2 or 2-3? Get that NCAA WIN to talk about in recruiting.

The current A-10 schools north of the Mason-Dixon line are 1-12 in game one, 1-12 in game 2, and 1-1 in game 3.
