Rasheen Davis and Kareem Richardson Bail on Chris Mack
Xavier Musketeers homepage (Cincinnati Enquirer) ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Xavier Assistant Coach Leaving for Manhattan (Shannon Russell, Cincinnati Enquirer - April 29, 2012 - 6:20 PM) Rasheen Davis Rasheen Davis is leaving Xavier for an assistant coaching position on Steve Masiello’s staff at Manhattan College. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Xavier Loses Another Assistant Coach (Shannon Russell, Cincinnati Enquirer - April 30, 2012 - 8:23 PM) Kareem Richardson A day after former Xavier men’s basketball assistant coach Rasheen Davis confirmed his new role with Manhattan College’s hoops program, fellow assistant Kareem Richardson was introduced as a member of Rick Pitino’s staff at Louisville. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- April 2012 was not a particularly good month for Chris Mack: April 3, 2012 – Chris Mack sacks Griffin McKenzie. April 4, 2012 – Chris Mack’s director of basketball operations, former Xavier stand-out Brian Thornton, bails to Winthrop. April 5, 2012 – Chris Mack signs head case GED Thomas, who has little chance of qualifying for Xavier and will likely enter the June 2013 NBA Draft. April 13, 2012 – Chris Mack’s top big man target, UConn transfer Alex Oriakhi, picks Missouri over Xavier. ![]() April 16, 2012 – Chris Mack signs “Plan C” big man Mad Dog Stainbrook, another head case, who was kicked off the Western Michigan Broncos for being a thug. April 22, 2012 – Chris Mack kicks Mark Lyons off the Xavier Musketeers for being a thug. Go figure. April 29, 2012 – Chris Mack’s assistant coach Rasheen Davis bails to Manhattan. April 30, 2012 – Chris Mack’s assistant coach Kareem Richardson bails to Louisville. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What a difference a month makes. 1. Chris Mack will now have to spend most of his time searching for and interviewing candidates for two vacant assistant coaching positions instead of hitting the recruiting trail as Mack had planned. 2. Rasheen Davis and Kareem Richardson will now be recruiting against Chris Mack instead of recruiting for him, meaning that Xavier is down three coaches on the recruiting trail. Chris Mack now has only Travis Steele out recruiting for Xavier. 3. The presence of 2013 SG # 1 GED Thomas on Chris Mack’s future roster will strongly discourage quality 2012 shooting guards such as Caris LeVert and OSU transfer Jordan Sibert from choosing Xavier, because of their concern over the possibility, however unlikely, of GED Thomas actually playing for Xavier in 2013 and getting 35 minutes per game. Sibert was recruited over at Ohio State, relegating him to the Buckeye’s bench, and he won’t be signing up for two more years of the same at Xavier. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Re: Rasheen Davis and Kareem Richardson Bail on Chris Mack
It will be interesting. I am curious who is going to be on the bench the next few years as we advance to the 2nd weekend. Xavier continues to propel itself as a school young up and comers should pursue. Great careers are launched through the success of Xavier. Young players get exposure in the NCAA tourney, get drafted, become millionaires. Young coaches advance to higher level assistant spots elsewhere, and get closer to head coaching. Many often then return when higher openings come available at X. It really is a great system.
I just wish X would honor athletic scholarships though, and not run players off. It is scuzzy, and any team that does it is scuzzy. X included there. I am proud how X has always won the right way without cheating though. No probation ever is respectable. I don't want to talk too much about this non basketball stuff though. Winning is what matters, as long as it is done without cheating. Actually hoops related, X has won 14 NCAA tourney games the last decade. Through all the changes, they keep WINNING. That is something that REALLY means something. Good thread. Last edited by stophorseabuse; 05-01-2012 at 04:19 AM. |

Muddled is caught lying AGAIN!
Quote:
Liar Xavier's recruiting class is STILL ranked in the TOP 25 of EVERY major scouting service. The recruiting contact period ended last week so Mack will have ample time to fill his coaching positions before the next recruiting period starts. BTW, word is that many, many coaches have already put in their applications for the asst. coach positions at Xavier. X doesn't want Sibert or LaVert is those players are afraid to compete for playing time. EDIT

Re: Rasheen Davis and Kareem Richardson Bail on Chris Mack
Xavier always seems to have turnover in the assistant coaching ranks and they always seem to get good assistants. They tend towards young and ambitious up-and-comers who generally aren't going to stay in one place for very long unless they are making solid career progress. Travis Steele is Mack's right hand man, and that isn't likely to change unless Travis leaves for a head coaching job somewhere (which he very well may do eventually, but is probably several years away from). Richardson, and definitely Davis, weren't going to be the associate head coach at Xavier. At Louisville there will not be an official associate head coach but word is that Richardson is likely to split most of the ahc duties with Keats.
Rasheen Davis is moving up the pecking order in terms of level of assistant as well, however he is moving down in terms of school. His wife and child live in NYC so I would imagine that is a good motivator for him. I'm excited to see who we hire. I'll be that they will be good. |

Good Lord! A new thread about Xavier. Very nice.
Must be a really sad day in flyerland. Do you guys have open scholarships or something for this coming year? Coach Chris Mack praised both assistant coaches and wished them well. He sees the coaching vacancies as opportunities. And there’s no shortage of candidates hoping to fill the roles. “My phone won’t stop ringing,” Mack said. “That’s a good thing.”

Reality bites for X right now! With Temple leaving, who will be our flagship now that X is heading rapidly downhill?

Re: Rasheen Davis and Kareem Richardson Bail on Chris Mack
Funny, I always thought that the sign of a strong program was the assistant coaches moving up professionally, and that usually means that they need to move to another program. Better to have young, upwardly mobile assistants than old, has beens (or wizened vets who love teaching - and a paycheck) looking for any place to hang their hat. And clearly this movement is great for Xavier, as a quick glance at men who have been assistants there during the tenure of Gillen to Prosser to Matta to Miller to Mack show. That is one impressive coaching tree.
Hmm, now let's recap the Dayton experience. I can't think of any young assistants moving up. But then again, I don't live in Dayton. I think the coaching tree is more of a weed.

Kind of like the two coaches who bailed on Pitino. OMG, Louisville is crashing and burning!

And Pitino can't keep his own kid at home!!!

To me that would mean every member would have at least 2 trips to the NCAA Tourney and 5 winning seasons during each 10-year cycle. It would also be great for every program to seriously challenge for a league title (either regular season or Tourney) at least once during that same period of time. |

In order for it to really be effective baiting, the content should have to stick in the crawl of the target audience. He can't deliver that.
His posts typically lead to a piling on effect, as people hammer him with facts, reality and perspective. They do that to the point of it being comical, making him look like the petty fool he is. And he keeps coming back for more. |
