I think extending Kellogg right now is a good gamble. I'm not 100% confident in his coaching abilities, but at worst he's an improving coach, and his recruiting has never been worse than competitive by A10 standards. And frankly, the thought of starting over with someone new makes me ill. Other A10 teams have shown us what it's going to cost if we go that route. I'd rather pay Kellogg. Nobody else we could bring in for the same money would be a sure thing either.

Definetely agree with you LM. This is the one area that suspect us going FBS has tied our hands a bit with DK's contract. Well being revenue nuetral or positive after time, it has additional start-up expenses right now. The extra 40 plus scholarships and Football coaches expenses plus the 1/2 million entrance fee to the MAC all are due and being paid. Hope McCutcheon and DK have an understanding and he will be rewarded. We had way too many 2k attendance games for the OOC games. Hope this changes this year. Waggy quoted you as will since Rhody has almost 40 less scholarships to pay by downgrading their football. Rhody has hit their ceiling and acknowledges it. We feel being the flagship State University we can still do better and have entered the the world of FBS football. It's a big experiement but extremely happy we made the move. Eventhou can not afford it, increased by donation this year by 33% to show my support.

Now is EXACTLY the right time to extend him. If they wait one more year and Umass meets the expectation of an NCAA bid, DK quote probably goes up 50% from what they could sign him for today.... Extend him 2 years, and see what that leads to. Assuming success, you then either bite the bullet or let him move onward and upward.... Even if they double his base pay he is still nearly half of Hurley's deal and he hasn't done much more than DK at this point.... But today you could get away with that disparity, tomorrow --- who knows?

Yup, after those first 4 it's clear we're looking at a well oiled machine. Disciplined, intelligent, well coached, deep, talented, great decision making. If well played basketball is your game then this is the team for you. They're a joy to watch. They've got it all going on. Well, everything except the things I just mentioned. They have some kooky fans, for instance. Who doesn't love a kook?

NIT First Round: Stony Brook 71, UMass 58 (Associated Press - March 21, 2013)

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) -- Anthony Jackson and Dave Coley scored 20 points each and Stony Brook beat Massachusetts 71-58 in the first round of the National Invitation Tournament on Wednesday night.

The seventh-seeded Seawolves advanced to the second round of the NIT and will play at Iowa on Friday night.

The second-seeded Minutemen (21-12) led 25-21 with 7:05 left in the first half, but they didn't score again in the half. Brenton was on the receiving end of a hard illegal screen foul that knocked him to the ground right before the run. The play seemed to fire up the visitors.

Stony Brook scored the final 17 points of the opening half to take a 38-25 lead at the break, and controlled the game the rest of the way.

Stony Brook scored six straight points to stretch its edge to 63-51 with 4:34 left to seal the win.

I'm not sure what Louisville is bringing back, but Michigan's a very young team. If they bring everyone back, they have to be the odds on favorite to win. Beilein coached at Umass, right? Oh wait, no he didn't.
