I think they will be one of the favorites to win the Championship that season. what do you think?

Also next season I see Umass in the Elite Eight or Final Four

Like Dayton, I think Umass has a pleasant, dedicated, and knowledgable fanbase. And like Dayton, I think Umass has 2 or 3 of the biggest (edited) in internet history cheering for them.
Says the biggest douchebag on the site. Dave what happened to the good old days when we used to joke about Ray Goss? where have they gone?

That said, UMass will certainly compete for a national championship in 2013-2014. THE best backcourt in the nation led by a senior Chaz Williams. Then a senior Raphiael Putney at SF. That's two NBA players right there. Then add in possibly one of the best frontcourts in the nation with Cady Lalanne and Maxie Esho as juniors. One of them is an NBA player too. We should be almost as stacked as Kentucky was last year, but not quite. I would say our chances are high.

Well... I was touting UMass back then just as much as I am now. I think we have one of the best teams in the country and thought we did last season too, so my direction has been quite static. However, it is a shame that there is no new Bob Ventrone Atlantic 10 Media Award Winner Ray Goss material on the internet that we can have a good laugh over because it is the offseason. Other than that though, I would say the offseason is my favorite time of the year. It's great because there's so much hope and optimism in the air, but now I can finally sit back and know for a fact that UMass and the Dallas Cowboys are stacked and should be title contenders. I haven't felt this feeling in a long, long time. Bout 17 years to be precise.

Yes he has. He played 10 or so games in the non-con last year. Had very good stats in limited minutes. Had he played the entire season, then UMass would have surely won the A-10 championship. We better hope he's fully recovered for next year. If not, then we may have to settle for a Sweet 16.

After lurking on this forum for a year, I created this account to say this. As a die hard umass fan, having attended every home game and tournament game in the past 7 years and having followed the team long prior, I have never been more excited by the direction Of the program. After ford left I was unsure about the future of the team, however CURRENTLY I am feeling great about this group and the future.

That said.

There are a handful of posters who do NOT represent what a level headed, thinking fan is thinking. We are dealing with fanboys and yahoos, and I would hate to have people lump the Umass community in with them when having in depth hoop talk.

GO UMASS! Ignore the crazies.

Just as it is with Dayton and Muddy, we own z8 whether we like it or not. If he is a fake, he wil get tired and go away, if he really is our Muddy, we have to just talk around him and do our best to offset his lunacy.

Umass will be better next year - but I am not even sure what that means yet. As I understand all of these conference changes, the A-14 is still exactly what it was last year. That said, Xavier looks like it may be a little down from their norm for a year, St Joe's and St Louis look to be as good or better and I hope that Umass is in the mix for the top spot. Honestly, I am not sure what to make of Temple next year - not yet anyway.

As of today - I think St Joe's will be the class of the league with Umass and St Louis a close second.

I'm not sure that was worth posting twice.
But you need to correct your signature line so that it is accurate. All you need is an * in the right place, and under that another * with the notation "vacated."

The whole UMass vacated the final four thing is nothing but trolling garbage. It's not like they played with players they illegally recruited, or had 6 guys on the floor in their elite 8 win. They had a player take a couple thousand dollars from an agent. And it's been reported that the player since returned all the lost final four revenue to the school.

Non issue, Umass made the final four.

This was on ESPN chat Wrap today with Eamonn Brennan:

Dan Smith (MA)

So, UMass returns all except their center (Sean Carter) They have signed two solid 2-3 star big men and have Derrick Gordon eligible in two years. Is this the start of a couple year UMass run?

UMass isn't going to take the country by storm, but no question they're on the way up. I'd put them at a half-step below the top end of the A-10 in the coming years, but with plenty of room for variance depending on how they improve. That's a solid team, which is not something UMass fans have had the luxury to say all that often lately.
