Re: 2012/13 Rankings, Including Bracketology

Uh, the average capacity for Horizon is 7,609. In fact, the poster I was responding to was saying how Butler is such a battle-tested as a program because they go night in and night out to packed, sold out "White Out" arenas when they play on the road... So I became curious after your post to do a little bit of research....

This isn't an exaggeration, it was common for teams averaging 2000 to sell out (and white out) that game.
No, that is quite the exaggeration.

Not only did Butler, itself, only manage to attract an average attendance of 6,599 to its home games, which is only 66% of capacity at Hinkle, it was very UNCOMMON to play against full houses on the road in the Horizon.

In fact, only one away game in the Horizon was sold out (Valpo). The average attendance was 62.8% of capacity. For example- 5,021/13,610 when Butler was @ Cleveland St. 6,588/10,400 when Butler was @ Wright St. 5,820/9,729 when Butler was @ Green Bay. And on and on and on.

But keep thinking coming from that one-bid Horizon league is just a moderate step-up cause of all those sold-out arenas you played in front of "every single night."

Re: 2012/13 Rankings, Including Bracketology

It's one thing for Butler fans to get annoyed at some X fans talking trash - it can get annoying. It's another thing to suggest that the move from Horizon to the A10 is anything but a significant move up. Seriously. Take away Butler from the Horizon and you have a one-bid no better than 12-seed league. That's it.

Re: 2012/13 Rankings, Including Bracketology

I wasn't trying to argue that the move wasn't a significant step up. I think it obviously is. I just wanted to state the facts because (A) I had the information readily available, and (B) I don't think that it's okay to belittle a conference based on inaccuracies.

Also, XavierHoops -- your figures are likely using Milwaukee's arena for this coming season. Through last year, they played at U.S. Cellular Arena for their men's games. For my figures, I included Butler's arena in the A10 average. Without it, the A10's average would be 7,561.

Re: 2012/13 Rankings, Including Bracketology

I will agree that outside of Xavier, Dayton, and St. Louis, the attendance in the A10 is subpar. That definitely doesn't take away from the quality of the games. I think the point that people are trying to make about the Horizon is that if you take away Butler there are no at large teams in that conference. The same can not be said about the A10 if you take away any of their schools.

Temple fans: what is the latest concerning Khalif Wyatt playing for the Owls in 2012-13 season if he is convicted ?

The Temple Owls Men's Basketball website still displays the 2011-12 Owls Roster.

Temple’s Wyatt Answers Questions About His Arrest (PHILAHOOPS - July 24, 2012)
On August 6th, Khalif Wyatt will walk into a courtroom to face charges of soliciting prostitution and resisting arrest for a June incident in Atlantic City while celebrating his 21st birthday.

Whatever the judge imposes, which I’d expect would include a fine, probation and maybe community service, will pale in comparison to the ramifications Wyatt already has faced and will continue to face in the court of public opinion.

A rising senior at Temple, Wyatt’s arrest made local and national headlines that caused embarrassment to the player and the program.

“He’s paid a very dear price for his indiscretion,” Owls coach Fran Dunphy told Philahoops earlier this month.

Trial of Temple's Wyatt Postponed Again (Philly.com - August 8, 2012)
The trial for Temple basketball star Khalif Wyatt was rescheduled for August 21st at 1:30 p.m. in the Atlantic City municipal court.

The original court date was July 12th before it was adjourned twice. The second trial was scheduled for Monday.

Wyatt was charged on June 10 with engaging in prostitution and resisting arrest while in Atlantic City. The senior was one of 28 people charged as part of a two-day prostitution sweep conducted by the city's Special Investigation Unit.

The 6-foot-4 shooting guard will be the Owls' top returning player next season. Wyatt, a Norristown High graduate, averaged 17.1 points and had a team-best 69 steals last season. He was a second-team all-Atlantic Ten selection.

Wyatt was held out of the Owls starting lineup three times for disciplinary reasons.

Temple’s Wyatt Tops List of Philahoops’ Preseason Honors (PHILAHOOPS - August 15, 2012)
Temple senior guard Khalif Wyatt has been named the Philahoops Preseason Player of the Year, Philahoops editor Aaron Bracy announced today.

Wyatt is coming off a season in which he averaged 17.1 points, 3.3 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 2.2 steals while helping the Owls finish 24-8 overall and 13-3 in the Atlantic 10.

Saint Joseph’s coach Phil Martelli has been named Preseason Coach of the Year, and Villanova’s Tony Chennault has been elected as Newcomer of the Year.

Maybe the writer simply forgot Charlotte would still in the A10 this year, but any predictions that don't have Chris Braswell in at least the 2nd team all conference is questionable in my mind. Braswell is arguably the best returning big man in the conference and is definitely top 3.

Think it was just philly players only in that article, not the whole A10.
