I never post stupid shit. My posts require much deep thought and intellect.

Also, I am not claiming National Championship. I believe that was Twister who proclaimed that. I think we will go to the Sweet 16, and I do not expect any more, though I wouldn't be utterly shocked if we went further.

Yes, this is a thread for people to beat their chests, but let's be just the slightest bit realistic? I mean, DUQUESNE?! C'MON.....

re: 2012/13 Rankings, Including Bracketology

Kellogg is far from a "great" coach. You're comparing a guy who was a NIT run from getting the Ax to a guy who reached the National Championship game and is one of the most well respected bball minds in the country(regardless of what you think of his personality). This is absurd. If I was starting a team right now I'd take Mitchell over Williams btw but that's a different argument. You're overhyping of what should be a decent UMass team is reaching ridiculous levels.

Just don't see it with Duquesne. They were far worse than their record last year, I actually thought Everhart did a good job. Maybe URI will still be worse but when you're counting on guys like Marhold to win in conference that spells trouble.

Why does so many people think VCU will be near the top of the A-10 this season. I know they are good but I see them struggling in conference play against tougher competition than what they had to deal with in the CAA.

Maybe because along with St. Louis they are the only A10 teams appearing in early preseason Top 25 polls?

But I think without him, Xavier's other players will be able to develop their strengths more effectively. Despite my general dislike of Chris Mack and skepticism about his in-game coaching, jettisoning Lyons seems like a good move that will benefit the team.

With the losses Xavier's had, I see them struggling in the out of conference schedule (relatively) and coming together during A-10 play, resulting in a dispiriting (for me) third or fourth place finish behind maybe St. Joe's, UMass and maybe St. Louis, despite a troubling, harbinger-of-things-to-come loss to the University of Dayton Flyers at the Cintas Center.

Rams Rankings:
1. VCU
2. Fordham
3. URI

I actually take the opposite approach. The loss of Lyons could stall the younger players development in the short term. Lyons would have had two sets of eyeballs on him at all times. Now the help pressure will flow toward Wells. Can he go from promising slasher to all-around stud in one offseason? Perhaps, but I'm not counting on it. I think he has a good sophomore year, but true stardom won't happen until he's a junior. Christon will have more eyeballs on him, which is not ideal for a freshman PG, and he'll get the London Warren sagging D until he can prove he can shoot. Myles Davis appears to be a dynamite shooter, but without Lyons he will be given the Redford treatment. Is he ready to score consistently with a D1 defender on his hip at all times? Probably a year or two away from that.

Xavier will have to find an interior presence to reach their potential. I like Philmore's game a lot, but I don't think he'll be that type of player. Reynolds is an intriguing prospect but just a freshman. Jeff Robinson and Travis Taylor are what they are. If someone or some collective doesn't step up, they will see a lot of packed in defenses with one guy hugging the gunners, M. Davis and Redford. I haven't even mentioned defense, which only sees two returning players who showed any ability to defend in Dee Davis and Wells.

I think losing Lyons will hurt Xavier quite a bit this year. Knocks them from sure top 4 down to the 5-6-7 range. Long term they are fine, but I definitely see a short term bump in the road.

Our fan base is talking about getting a game against VCU HERE and HERE. Hopefully, we get that game scheduled. It is a shame that in the history of bracketbusters, we never ended up against one another. Instead we had to keep pummeling Mason while you guys kept beating Wichita St.

As to bringing WSU with us, while I hate everything WSU related with tremendous passion (they are our main rivals), I'd like to bring them along if we left the MVC because they are well funded and don't have a FB program. Travel for them would be even more ridiculous than for Creighton though, so I doubt it is a viable option.

Losing Lyons will hurt this coming year, but we'll see the dividends of it in 2013-14. Much rather have the incoming top 15 class be led by and developed under a Dez Wells than Lyons; additionally they'll be getting a lot minutes this year they wouldn't have had under Lyons.

I could envision X not making the tournament this year (to the delight of most people on here I'm sure), but I don't think I would ever predict X not to make the tournament particularly given their 11 out of last 12 record.

re: 2012/13 Rankings, Including Bracketology

Yeah you put Lyons in there I am putting them top 4. But now you are asking so much from young players. Dez is a future star, I am sure some of the new recruits are future stars but it's a lot to ask for them to mold into a winning team so fast. X has done it before so I never say never with them but preseason I think there needs to be a healthy amount of doubt in this season. Mack is really going to be tested as a coach and it will be interesting to see how he can pull this season off.

re: 2012/13 Rankings, Including Bracketology

I can't see how my posts are insane. I have stated that I do not think the Dukes will miss the conference tourney and will finish any where from 13th to 10th. 10th would be best case scenario with a ton of close wins and off nights by other A10 teams. I think the Dukes do have a shot at finishing close to the top of the conference the following year. By close to the top I mean 7th-4th. Again with 4th being only with insanely good luck. My predictions are far from outlandish, unlike your outrageous boasts that Umass will all of a sudden be better than Xavier, Dayton, St. Joes, Temple, St. Louis, etc which all have better talent and better coaches.

As usual, Adam has put a lot of thought into his analysis of Xavier's likely fortunes for 2012-2013. What he says makes sense and is as likely to happen as not.

I have a bit more faith in the coaching ability of Chris Mack than does the earlier poster (than Adam). I love the fact that Xavier always schedules a tough OOC schedule and tends to play a longer bench in those games than during the Conference schedule. This year will likely be no exception since the incoming players (including Philmore) are fairly highly rated and will need significant minutes to get their "D-1 legs" before the start of Conference play. Fortunately, Christon, Myles Davis, Farr, and Reynolds all played against significantly better competition last year than the traditional high school senior. And I'd like to remind folks that Justin Martin came on strong at the end of his freshman year and should be poised to make some noise as a sophomore. I am also not quick to declare Robinson and Taylor as busts. Robinson simply has to play consistently as well as he is capable. If that means in 3-minute stretches with breaks in between, so be it. Taylor just has to play in games the way he impressed coaches in practice. It is likely a matter of gaining in confidence. I'm hoping that a year under his belt as a full-time Muskie will have taken care of that. Finally, Myles Davis is not just another Brad Redford. He can create, take it to the hoop, and shoot from the perimeter. If my math doesn't fail me, that's 300% more than Brad is capable of doing.
__________________
I just want the team I support to be in a stronger conference. I'd prefer it to be a stronger A-10! To me that would mean every member would have at least 2 trips to the NCAA Tourney and 5 winning seasons during each 10-year cycle. It would also be great for every program to seriously challenge for a league title (either regular season or Tourney) at least once during that same period of time.
