A10 Schedule

Whats up with SLU and Majerus, pulling to get home games with all the top A10 teams.

Anyone else hear of Preliminary Schedules?

Wow..with how hard it is to win on the road in the A10 that schedule will majorly play into SLU's favor this year. They've got basically everyone who is considered "in the hunt" for the title at home, minus Temple. (and now that I re-read, it's Dayton or Xavier. Still, a lot of heavyweights needing to go on the road for them)

If this first draft holds up, in my mind they'll be inching even closer to who I'm thinking will win the conference.

Lets see....Butler is close and a good choice for home and away. Played ST Joe and UMass on the road last year should be at home this year.
Losing home and home with dayton and X request a home game with one of the two. All seems logical to me.

It looks as expected to me. Last season SLU played:

H&A: Dayton, Xavier and Duquesne
Home: GW, Temple, Bona, Richmond, and Fordham
Away: Charlotte, UMass, Joes, La Salle, and URI

This season Butler will be their lone H&A based on geography, and Home and Away should switch. The only thing left to determine was which 2 of Dayton, Xavier, Duquense and VCU would be at home and which 2 would be away. You'd expect Dayton/Xavier to be split rather than have SLU make 2 trips to the same area or host both, and since SLU will be playing a return game at Richmond, it makes sense for them to play VCU at home. That leaves Duquesne as the final road game:

H&A: Butler
Home: Charlotte, UMass, Joes, La Salle, URI, VCU and (Xavier/Dayton)
Away: GW, Temple, Bona, Richmond, Fordham, Duquesne and (Xavier/Dayton)

For comparison, I expect UMass's schedule to be:

H&A: Rhode Island
Home: Temple, Dayton, Richmond, Duquesne, GW, Butler and (Joes/LSU)
Away: Xavier, SLU, Bona, Charlotte, Fordham, VCU and (Joes/LSU)

My guess is that we'll split the Philly schools (both H&A last season) and thus split the newcomers as well. And since we're already making 2 trips west vs. 1 south, and Richmond is at home (return trip from last season), it's almost guaranteed we'll get VCU on the road and Butler at home.

I'll do one more for Richmond, since that should also give us VCU:

H&A: VCU
Home: URI, Bona, Duquesne, SLU, Xavier, Joes and (GW/Charlotte)
Away: Temple, UMass, Fordham, LSU, Dayton, Butler and (GW/Charlotte)

VCU should be the opposite of that. Richmond played GW, Charlotte and Joes H&A last season, but since they're already slated to make 2 trips to Philly I figure Joes is safely a home game. Butler I figure will be a road game since they're already hosting 2 western teams (4 if you count Duquesne and Bona) and VCU has to make all the western trips that Richmond doesn't make. No guess as to how GW and Charlotte will be split. Well, maybe they'll split it public/private and give Charlotte to VCU since it's their final year.

We'll see though. All of this falls apart if the A10 doesn't feel obligated to play the return matches from last season's schedule.

I would just as soon play Majerus every year on the road. He is going to beat us anyway, so we have an excuse.

Feb. 22, 2012 Wednesday 7:00 PM Duquesne * Pittsburgh, PA
Feb. 29, 2012 Wednesday 7:00 PM Richmond * Richmond, VA

I expect that Dayton’s home-and-away opponent in 2012-13 will be Xavier.

If the home teams for Dayton’s 2011-12 Schedule are reversed in 2012-13, the Flyers schedule would be:
At UD Arena: Temple, St. Bonaventure, Saint Joseph's, [Saint Louis or Duquesne], Fordham, Richmond, and [Butler or VCU]

A10 Road Games: [Saint Louis or Duquesne], [Butler or VCU], La Salle, Rhode Island, Charlotte, Massachusetts, and George Washington
. . . but the Atlantic 10 Scheduling Office may have other ideas.

Re: A10 Schedule

I would expect the Bonnies' home and home to be with Duquesne. Although, nothing against our A-10 rival to the South, the selfish part of me hopes it is Fordham so that I can see the Bonnies more easily. They could pair us with Fordham, as both are NYS schools and there is a large Bona alumni contingent in Metro NYC. Who knows, they may decide to pair Duquesne with one of the Philly schools to keep it within PA. Otherwise, our other home/away pairing last year was URI, so they could be home or away this coming year.

If they flip the homes and aways from last year:

Home: Xavier, Saint Louis, UMass, Charlotte, La Salle, two of Duquesne/Fordham/URI?, VCU or Butler?
Away: GW, Dayton, Temple, St. Joe's, two of Duquesne/Fordham/URI, VCU or Butler?

I would rather have Duquesne (no offense to Fordham or the many, many alums we have in the metro area who like to see the Bonnies). Maybe we can just straight up play Fordham away this year, before reverting next year to the 3 H+Hs (unless there is a new scheduling plan in place after next season).

Agreed. Martelli is Majerus' b*tch. Totally and completely out coaches him. No matter what the talent level difference may be the Hawks, coached by Martelli, will not beat Majerus.

Re: A10 Schedule

Fordham H&A opponents last season were St. Bonaventure, URI and Temple. I would say with a near certainty that URI will be paired with UMass, so that eliminates them. I think Temple will be paired with St. Joseph's or La Salle for one last time which therefore means that Fordham will be paired up with the Bonnies.

La Salle had UMass, GW and Temple so I see them getting either Temple or GW. Most likely GW as I see Temple getting paired with St. Joe's.

St. Joe's had UMass, Richmond and Temple. I see a Temple pairing in their future.

It appears the conference is going to either mix things up a bit or I see a pairing of Charlotte and Duquesne coming. I arrive at that conclusion b/c if SLU is paired with Butler, then that leaves DUQ as the odd man out of last season's groupings. Charlotte had GW, Richmond and XU. They could get GW, but I see GW being paired up with La Salle, so that leaves both DUQ and CHA without pairings. I am sure Duquesne would rather the A10 mix things up some.

I would not mind getting Charlotte. They are the only team we have not beaten in the A10 so I'd like two shots at them. And if we suck, I could not care less about hurting their RPI. I don't think we will get paired up with them though. Then again, if SBU and DUQ get paired, then we are left without one of last season's partners. Maybe it will happen.

I could see it being SBU/Duquesne, GW/Charlotte, then some pairing of La Salle/Temple/SJU/Fordham. Just as possible is SBU/Fordham, then some pairing of La Salle/Temple/SJU/Duquesne. This is all hinging on what they do with Charlotte. All the other teams are good for promulgating rivalries, but there's no sense in starting one with Charlotte now.

Bonnies and Duquesne go back a ways. Don't Fordham and LaSalle go back to their MAAC days? I'd like to see SBU/DUQ, and if 1 of the 3 Philly schools gets Fordham, it should be LSU, and them TEM/SJU match up. Travel-wise it makes sense too.

They should just pair Temple and Charlotte, that way everyone else is paired with someone that will remain in the conference.
